Iv had severe gerd for about 5 years now and all iv managed to eat and drink the whole time iv been pregnant id mash and water if i try any other food my throat goes into a tight spasm where i feel like im choking and cant breathe but not even the water and mash are getting bad for me my throat feels like its on fire and i can hardly swallow. Has anyone else had it this bad? Iv tried everything from raising my head at night to upping my omeprozole 20mg a day but nothing :( im waiting to see a specialist but it will take months i feel like ill never be able to eat again and its getting me so down :( x

The only true relief I get at night is when I can actually fall asleep sitting straight up, which is very hard to do, but if I can fall asleep that way I actually get sleep.... Meds help me in the day but night is torturous!

Coconut water helps calm mine down but it doesn't sound nearly as severe as what you are experiencing. Hope you get some relief.

have you tried a teaspoon of baking soda in some water?
I'm off to get some today as I also have severe GERD and omeprozole & renitidine just don't do anything any more. I've learnt to cut out sugary foods, chocolate, red meat, caffeine & acidic fruit which seems to help a bit. Also, switching to almond and oat cereal has also helped. Still throwing up as soon as I go to bed though so hopefully the baking soda will help x

Iv tried everything sitting right up with pillows at night iv not ate choc/sweets/tomatoey/fried or greasy food in fact any food other than mash and veg for 9months :( which kills me as im craving sugar so bad! Theres no other better step i can take. What does baling soda do? And can you take rentidine while ur pregnant? I think i need something stronger x

yes, you can have renitidine whilst pregnant. I've just had the baking soda water and it was instant relief, just had my lunch and it hasn't come back as yet. Not getting my hopes up though cos it just kinda creeps up on you...as you probably know.

How many mg are u on are u on omeprazole too? Im on 20mg a day of that. Does the baking soda stop the burning in ur throat? I get that all day plus a lump feeling in the left side of my throat like i cant swallow :(

are you still having onion? that's meant to be worst culprit for triggering acid reflux.

Docs prescribed me omeprazole but it didn't work at all for me and doc said to only take one a day. I don't know how many mg as I didn't keep the box. I still take 2 renitidine about an hour before bed, I think that's 150mg. I can tell it helps a bit but I want something that is going to take it away altogether.
I get the constant burning in my throat and keep getting a little sick in my mouth if I do something too quick or bend over. I've had a cough ever since it started too which always makes me choke. x

Nope nothing just mash and veg and ill have a teacake for breakfast and dinner.
Its awful isnt it im seriously thinking of asking for the op once the little 1s here but not sure how successful it is just cant see hope any other way i feel like i cant eat at all. Do you ever get a tight throat feeling from it?

ah, I can't have teacakes as it makes it worse for me. Not sure if it's the butter or flour but can't have crumpets either. I can't wait to have the little man so that this acid can go away. I've had it in both pregnancies but wasn't as bad with my first.

I do get a tight feeling in my throught and a constant feeling that something is at the back of my throat but it's hard to say whether that's due to the acid or the constant cough/cold that I've had for weeks.

I also get a pain under my left boob if I down't take ranitidine. My consultant said it's due to my stomach being pushed up into my ribs

I seem to be better on these than toast only have a smidge of butter.
Does ur acid go away instantly once youve give birth? Mines always been bad but never this bad im hoping i can up my dose too once hes born.

Iv had that pain before too but not for ages now but when i did get it my heart would hurt like a stabbing pain can be really scary even though they say its nothing to do with ur heart x

yeah, mine went away instantly once I had given birth. Although I still had to take a renitidine tablet when I was in labour.
I'm not sure about this one yet but I don't reckon it will go away instantly like last time cos it just feels so bad all the time. Makes me miserable.
With my under boob pain, I first thought it was my bra getting too tight but it started hurting at night when I just had my nightie on, that's when I realised it was something internal...
The things we have to go through eh?

I hope it does go instantly i dont think i could cope any longer just glad hes due anyday.

Hope u manage to get the pain sorted. Ur right who says pregnancy was easy lol i dont think ill be gettin preg again x
