my OH isnt insured to drive my car.. (would double my monthly payment & we cant afford that before xmas) but basically.. weve got loads of xmas shopping to do that we cant do online thats around my due date (dont get paid again until 7th dec) and was wondering what'd happen if my waters went/contractions started while we were half hour from home..
I couldnt just leave my car in another town? but i dont want to break the law if we was to get caught (unlikey as my car has insurance so wouldnt flash up on system.. would only be if we crashed, or just a random spot check - rather not risk it though.. 6 points each and we'd lose our lisences for this!)

would you drive home while in labour? risk OH driving? or somehow come up with the money? :/ (not really possible though! :( )

I would try to come up with the money, especially if you'll only have him on there for a month or two. If I couldn't come up with the money, I would risk having OH drive.

The one thing I would not do is drive while in labour. I actually think I would only risk OH driving for a half hour drive at most. If you can leave the car there and have someone drive you to go pick it up, that might be better then having OH drive uninsured. Or if you have a friend/family member that can maybe drive you around?

My OH got insured on my car for a week, as I was being induced. It cost me £28.. I really wouldn't risk it myself. x

Please don't risk your OH and yourself, I would either try and afford a months cover or consider leaving the car and calling an ambulance. Someone else who's covered on TP to drive other people's cars could pick it up for you or your OH could arrange the insurance for 1 day cover when he needed to. But the one thing I would not advise is taking the risk of him driving uninsured.

tbh i dont wanna risk him driving anyways.. i need my lisence more than its worth!

were gonna have to try and get his dads car so he can drive there... i know we'll go.. everything be fine and me be annoyed that i would have been fine to drive! :nope:

I wouldnt risk it either, it is not fair if he has an accident and is not insured. Thats the reason insurance is so high alot of the time, to cover uninsured drivers. xx

Why not just see how much it is to have him put on for a month or so? Then you'll be fine for shopping but he can also take you to hospital / pick you up / be on hand to run about when baby arrives etc?

im not gonna. as much as i trust his driving.. accidents are accidents. and as much as the other car/people involved if something was to happen i'd be 14.5k down!

were taking his dads car, which my OH is insured on as they car share :)

Questions:

Does he have his own insurance policy on another car?

If so, is he covered to drive other cars 3rd party?

If the answers to both these questions is yes, then he can deve your car on his insurance policy, as all the law requires is that you be insured 3PFT.

If no, does your policy allow you to deve other cars 3rd party? Similar question of your OH's policy - again if the answers are yes then simply swap your car with his dad's.

Other than that I'm afraid the only real answer is to come up with the money - if you had an accident whilst driving and in labour, you may land yourself on the wrong side of a due care or not in proper control charge, or he will could be done, as you say, for no insurance... Neither of these is a good option.

Hope you get it sorted :)

I reread what I wrote, and I just want to make sure it's clear that I'm not recommending that your OH drive uninsured. I was just saying that if I was in that situation and it came down to it, I would have my OH drive insured in a last resort, emergency situation and knowing that neither of our licenses would be suspended or revoked where I live. I'm glad that your OH is able to get his dad's car though. :)

No the policy on his dads car is in his dads name as its his dads car. He's just a named driver
And I'm only insured to drive my car as I'm under 21... :/ were taking his dads car though so he can drive just in case! X
