Hi Ladies,

So yesterday I met my midwife for the first time, and she said that we need to get a carbon monoxide detector and put it somewhere central in our house. The reason being, to check for any leakage from boilers e.t.c She said sometimes, older houses tend to have boiler leakages than the newer ones but carbon monoxide WILL kill newborn babies and can cause cot death. She said its worth checking it out early just in case you need to buy a new boiler or whatever. Just thought id share , as not all midwives might say this information or forget.

i have one that looks just like a smoke alarm. you can pick them up from B&Q and similar for around £20, well worth it!

Yeah we have to get one too because the boiler is actually in what will be the nursery.

Awww thanks ladies, I will go and get one this week I had no idea about this xx

My mom has one. I cant remember how much they cost but they are easy to get and simple to put up....i think ours was a plug in one to a wall socket.

Aren't these a common household item?
They are in Canada!
I don't remember ever NOT having one in the house!

I'm from Canada too. We didnt always have one, but they def are common in canada cause ive seen them in others houses too

great advice, i have always been paranoid about this and have 4 detectors in my house lol
xx

Agreed. Carbon monoxide is the silent killer. Whole families have been wiped out by it because they didn't have a detector (not to go all morbid here but just saying...). It's a definite must-have along with a smoke detector, in my opinion. :)

its also worth getting your bolier serviced, especially if you have an older one. We had ours serviced a few weeks ago (not just because of being pg, it was stopping on and off!) and we were told as its over 20 years old, the regs have changed a lot since and he strongly recomended we get a carbon monoxide detecter (we actually already have one!) this has made me so paranoid we have someone coming round on sat for a quote for a new boiler even though there is 'techniqually' nothing wrong with it.
good post
