So at 26 weeks pregnant finally feel confident enough to go looking at pushchairs and prams, go to shop and after trawling through many finally whittled descision down to Babystyle Oyster as the carrycot could double for sleeping / moses basket early on.

Came home and goggled prices only to find out that the oyster carrycot shouldn't be used for overnight sleeping due to lack of air flow system or something???

Now confused as to what to do as Oyster isn't suitable from birth and would mean added expense if buying carrycot and moses basket - is there any prams with a carrycot that are suitbale for overnight lseeping or is everyone using a moses basket??

You don't necessarily need a moses basket- I know plenty of people who have gone straight to a cot with no problems and this is what I would have done if a friend hadn't lent us her moses basket.

We bought a moses basket for DD1 and she would not sleep in it what so ever! She would scream and scream and we ended up co-sleeping (which was actually quite nice and helped with BF). So with DD2 we decided thay maybe a crib might be better as it had a thicker matress, more space and was more "open". She slept very well in it from the first night home and she then graduated from the crib to a cot at night and travel cot with a bassinette during the day when she was 8 weeks old. xxx

I've bought the uppababy vista from John Lewis which has a carrycot suitable for overnight sleeping! Love the pram and it's so practical! Didn't want to spend out on a Moses basket which we may not even use!!!

I know the Icandy carrycots can be used for overnight sleeping (except the Pear one) but our dd wouldnt sleep in a moses basket so went into a cot straight away, ds did sleep in the moses basket for a while though.

Moses baskets arent that expensive though.. and you can use the carseat with the oyster from birth, although I love it with the carrycot.. gutted were not getting one.. wasnt easy to fit in my car - alot of faffing about..
but Asda do moses baskets for £25, so were getting that.. as the quinny carrycot for our pram isnt suitable for overnight sleeping either.. :flower:

we are getting the mamas and papas sola, which is very reasonably priced and the carrycot can be used for overnight sleeping.. however i have bought a gorgeous moses basket from argos for £40 including stand.. so not very expensive.

We will use the moses basket in our bedroom and the sola carrycot in the front room so it will mean not having to drag it about all the time x

My midwife told me to just stick baby in the carry cot for my pram if i wanted, because I still dident have my basket ready when he was born. =s

Plenty of carry cots can be used for overnight sleeping, but only really for occasional things like staying with people, which is why I think it would be handy, and then you can also use it for day-time naps (one can hope...) and on wheels to go out etc.

For overnight I don't see any reason to get anything other than a cot, unless your room is too small to fit it in or if someone decides to give you a lovely crib/basket. But each to their own and all that :winkwink:

All the brands listed are suitable for over night sleeping as they state on their websites however, some health professionals advise only for occasional overnight sleeping and something like a Moses basket or crib is better for every day usage. And yes as someone already pointed out its to do with the airflow.... John Lewis advisor gave me the low down on it too, think its bad how they sell their products as such when you realistically can't use them all the time!

However I'm sure many people do use hem daily and have had no problems! X

I've bought a quinny buzz with the matching carrycot which I plan on using in place of a moses basket at first. I've just spent a bit extra on a quality mattress as the mattress included is only suitable for occasional sleeping.
