So as many of you probably read, I have a crazy long baby. I have a problem though, she's actually too big for her carseat. Its rearfacing and her feet are touching the back of the seat and she doesn't look comfortable. Problem is she's only 15lbs 9oz so not big enough for a forward facing one. What do I do?!

TBH jacob has been in a forward facing one for abotu a month now as he is REALLY Long and outgrew his really quickly! xXx

hmmm, tough one! can you buy a combination seat that faces forward for her fit, but suitable for her weight?! i think we have them here. i no they say not too worry about feet in the infant carriers, but sometimes they are just too long! maddi is very long too! x

How old is she?

please dont put them forward facing untill they have full head control, recommendation is 9 months. ewans legs touched the car seat but he loved pushing agauinst it and helped strengthen his legs.

Also i was in a head on car crash with ewan when he was young, under 6 months of age, he was unijured but the albulance people said had he been facing forward it could have been very serious (my car was a write off)

robyn will be staying rear facing for as long as possible.

I've been told that it is safer to squeeze them into the rear-facing than put them forward-facing. Safety first in my opinion.

My boy is 25 lbs, 82cm and is in his rear-facing seat. At 3 months old he looked like he wasn't going to fit in it much longer but he still does at 7 1/2 months.

Even though she is too tall leg wise you should keep her rear facing til she gets the right weight or her head goes over the carseat, there legs being scrunched up is not a problem x x

Grace is still in her rear facing carseat but she is far too long for it and it looks like it hurts her legs when she goes in and out. She is 8.5 months though and has always had great head control so am looking into getting her a foward facing. Not really sure what you can do hun

I'm pretty sure they should stay rearward facing until they can sit up by themselves. We've bought a combination car seat for the next one as Kaya had to go into her forward facing one at about 7 months - luckily she was able to sit up by herself by that point.

Here's what I found at one site:

My Baby Wants to Be Front-Facing! Even if your baby's legs are touching the seat back, or the baby cries when rear-facing, you should still keep baby rear-facing to at least one year and 20 pounds. Both requirements must be met before turning baby around. An 18-pound 14-month-old baby should rear-face because her body is not big enough to tolerate crash forces in a forward-facing car seat. Likewise, a 25-pound 10-month-old should remain rear-facing because his neck is not sufficiently developed to handle the crash forces while in a forward-facing car seat.

I'm sorry, I don't know what to suggest about it...:hugs:

Well the carseat I have is only good up to 22lbs so I need to get a convertible one anyway. I wanted to get one that goes rear facing to 35lbs and then converts to front facing and booster seat (they changed the laws here you need them in a booster seat until 90lbs). I know its safer to keep them rear facing, just she looks so darn uncomfortable

i'm with hypnorm and kaci, legs are better overhanging than her neck being broken in a crash. We HAD to move Lilia as she is 32" tall and was waaay over the top of her old group 0 seat, however she was more than able to sit unaided and had very good head control and were advised by the carseat specialist and HV.

Wow ema i'd be so scared to have my baby forward facing at 4 months, you must have one tall little man!!

can you put her in a different position in the car? EG behind Mark Chloe doesnt fit as he has his seat so far back and her legs are so long so she goes behind the passenger seat in Marks car, and in the front in my car

Hoping this doesnt sound bad but i would rather have an uncomfortable baby than an injured baby.

Sorry it is something i am passionate about after being in a head on with a motor bike. This was my car after wards, and i am sooo glad ewan was rear facing and in the back of the car, i will never put a seat in the from of the car after this.
reality really hits home.
Ewan was about 4/5 months old when it happened.

Wow Harley is heavier then her. Not as long though, she still fits her carseat. Thats so cute, that she hangs out of her carseat. I'm sure you could buy a bigger carseat. It would probably be safer.

Obviously I would not put my child in danger. I just didn't know if you were supposed to switch or not at that point.

Is your car seat an infant car seat, or convertible? We had an infant car seat that Kathryn recently outgrew (she is in the 90th percentile for hight!) , so we got a large convertible car seat (evenflow symphony)-got it 2 weeks ago, but should have sooner, her feet were really dangling over!- . It's much bigger so Kathryn has room to grow and can stay rear facing, it's good to keep them rear facing as long as possible, it's much safer. The one we got also converts to forward facing and a to booster (up too 100 lbs!) and its' very cushy and comfy. Good luck finding one that works for you.
