Birth Story **POSITIVE ELECTIVE C-SEC**

Baby Caylem
Born O2.08.2011
at O9:21am
6lb 4oz and 51cm Long
at 38wOd via elective c-section.

Before OP:
Admitted to hospital for monitoring at 37+5
sunday 31st July
Ctg sunday night and doctor came round sunday night, done bloods and put the line in my hand
Monday: imvolved CTG and monitoring and aneastist came round talked me through procedure and all that happening.
Sunday night was put on the IV fluids (drip) for theatre, Fasted from Midnight and took my 1st pre-op tablet

DELIVERY:
Morning of the Op: got my 2nd pre-op tablet, 8:15am porter came to collect me
down to theatre, all pre-theatre checks and drank that nasty stuff before op, taken in, sat up on bed,
at this stage the nerves were really kicking in, I was shaking and crying and so scared and nervous.
another line (cannula)was put into my otherhand, Aneastist team came in
Put spinal injection in back, that was really sore the poking and prodding at my back and the pain of needle going in
i was hooked upto heart monitors, bp and oxygen machines.
surgeons and doctors came in, One last listen from the baby doctor on the doppler to babies heartbeat
the sterile body paint was put on could feel how cold that was, soon the numbness kicked in..
They put the catheter in and than began the procedure.
I couldnt feel the initital cut but could hear them snipping at the tissue
NO PAIN!!!!!
then they warned me i would feel some pressure, I did. NO PAIN no discomfort
I just took few deep breaths then heard them words.
Congratulations its a beautiful Baby boy, Followed by that precious scream i longed to hear.

I was then Told something that scared me, that they needed to thicken my womb on the left
that it had started to get weak and thin out
At that stage i could see them over in the corner cleaning down baby and using the vaccum thing to
remove mucus from throat that stage scared me how quiet he was (even tho it was natural)
then heard them beautiful screams again.
baby was taken out then into the small room off theatre, and cleaned down fully
placed in the heat bag, weighted, given his vit K injection and baught back into me in theatre
OMG how damn beautiful could one baby be. he was so tiny and perfect.
covered in baby stuff, but all i could do was kiss him..

I was then stitched back up, and whisked into recovery.
I started to take a reaction to the morphene, started to itch everywhere.
so i was given piriton anti-allergy tablet while in recovery.
after about 45min i was taken back upto the ward.

where i got a proper look at my little man.
It was few hours before i could sit up, nurses came and helped me up in bed
i was then allowed some tea and toast, then later on that evening i had the upperbody stenght to hold my
babyboy, it was amazing.

One of the surgeons came up to me that evening and told me about my womb
basically it thinned out on left hand side of my uterus
and the had to double stitch internally to help the healing
iv been advised not to get pregnant for min 2-3yr to allow sufficent thickening on womb
the cause may ave been likely to me falling preg so soon after last c-section
and a 18mth exact gap between operations,
they said allow min 2 yr so that the risk of 3rd tri - internatal rupturing at the entry area for section
will be healed enough to help aid a pregnancy
basically if i get preg again too soon and make it to 3rd tri
the Risk of rupture is massive due to weight of the baby on my uterus where i was cut open
could cause rupture and be,life threatning to me and baby if blood posioning occurs

Post Op:
Next day MW's came round, one removed my catheler and helped me out of bed.
where i then stood up and sat down on chair while they changed my bedding
about an hour later i ventured out of bed myself and to the bathroom. was delighted to be up
on my feet felt so good..
I was discharged from hospital then on sat so was in for 4 nights after operation.

its now 6 days post Op and i Feel great, am keeping ontop of my pain by taking reg pain relief
walking fine, running after my 18mth old too, and quite sleep deprived but am good
back driving too and feeling no actual restrictions which feels great

this was my second c-section
and I found 2nd time round ALOT better than the 1st

Thanks to anyone who reads this birth story
and to everyone who wished me well and esp those who supported me durning pregnancy
best of luck to you all..

Congratulations, Caylem is beautiful. I love the second picture of him peeping out the towel.
Hope you're recovering well.

Congrats! He is adorable. Its nice to read a positive story as I am having a c section on 17th october and am v.v.anxious. I am literally worried about everything, the epidural going in, the catheter, the pain when the epi wears off and how I will probably end up crying like a baby!!!

xx

best of luck with your delivery
go in open minded and as relexed as possible
and i promise the experience isnt half as scary as you think
you wont feel catheter anyways cus you be numb :)
ii heard a surgeon advising someone on a spinal as opposed to epi
i had spinal myself as iv had previous problems with epi not working
durning a nat birth. so they wanted to be extra safe and go spinal
spinal was fine, great experience of it..
best of luck my dear.. xx
