they are done on day 21 (or 7dpo) to see if you have ovulated or not, im no doc but i think your progestrone peaks 7days past ov and i think they can tell by that number if you have ovulated or not. xx

Yes, as Claire says, they are to find out if you ovulate. Although sometimes, as in my case, they still may not know from these tests alone. That is because, although serum progesterone levels do peak, that does not mean 100% you have ovulated.The peak can occur without the release of an egg.
