Has anyone had their cycle day 3 blood work done? What is the doctor looking for? Im on my 5th month TTC and just noticed that I ovulate pretty late...sometimes as late as day 30! When I called the doctor concerned, the nurse just told me to come in for blood work. I've had my thyroid and progesterone tested before and they came back normal. I lengthened my luteal phase with vitamin B (used to be 8 days, now 14!) but the long cycles and late ovulation! I totally skipped April's O and now onto May. Drats! No wonder that little bugger isn't sticking! Anyone else in the same boat?

Ive gone in for blood work a couple times, once for day 3 and then for day 29. when i went in for day 3 they check my prolactin levels. Did they mention anything about that?

Nope! She just said come in...no mention of what was being checked. Do they always only check one thing at a time? I've noticed I've had to go in numerous times (don't mean to sound like a cheapskate, but its expensive!) and they only ever check one thing at a time. Hmmm. I'll ask when I go in about the prolactin. Thanks!

they can take more than one sample per visit. the first day i went in they took 4 different samples. but different hormones peak and drop at different times of the month. Since i chart i just brought in that past years worth of charts so they knew what they should test for instead of testing for one thing, looking at it and testing for other stuff based on the last test! You should call tomorrow and ask what theyre testing for!

HI THERE! I had my blood tests done on the 3rd day of my cycle as well. My doctor tested my hormone levels to make sure that I was in the follicle phase of my cycle while on my period. I just began taking clomid 50mg today after she checked my ovaries through ultrasound. She said that I have many follicles but none of them are oversized. We will see how the tests come out and good luck to you! :flower:

Thank you! Good luck to you, too! I wonder if she'll start Clomid...how long until your doctor prescribed it to you? I've ovulated on cd 30 the last 5 months :( so I need something to O sooner...those little eggs are fried!

My doctor prescribed me the Clomid 50mg (which is the lowest dosage usually) on the day of my first visit but I was not allowed to take any of it until after she did the ultrasound. I guess to make sure my ovaries weren't out of whack first. I started taking it on the day of my second visit AKA the ultrasound day. Today is only the second day of taking it, CD 5, so I am hoping that I will ovulate on day 14. My cycles have always been irregular though.. I always have one each month but my cycles range from 18-39 days! Im sure your doctor will prescirbe you Clomid if you ask her for it. Thats all I did basically was just ask for info about it and BOOM she gave it to me! :happydance: How long have you been TTC?

You sound just like me! Cycles are all out of whack. I can go anywhere from 25 to 45 days between periods....boo. I totally skipped April! Just got April's AF on May 1st. Right now I ovulate super late. Im starting Vitex to see if it'll make me O sooner. If it doesn't, i'll definitely be asking about Clomid or anything else to regulate things. We've been trying aggressively for going on 5 months, but prior to that we weren't using protection for 4 months and nothing! I hate to make it a race, but i've known women who've gotten pregnant and popped out their babies since we started. Sucks!

I've definitely been there! Out of the whole year and two months that my husband and I have been trying, months 5-8 are the WORST! its when you start to worry so it makes it impossible to not think about it all the time! I promise you will get through it just try to keep your mind focused on work or school or whatever it is that you do everyday. Im not going to tell you dont think about it because as I know from experience, its impossible and just plain frustrating to hear! I only wish that I could go to every person that has told me to just not think about it and slap them with a maxi pad! :dohh: If I have one more period I am going to scream! lol but everyday is anew one and I am that much closer to having a baby! :happydance:

:hugs: Thank you so much...I feel so much better knowing I'm not alone! All of my girlfriends are knocked up and just look at me with sympathy! I like the maxi pad slap idea. Haha. :) :)

I had my cd 3 tests done a few weeks ago and they said almost everything was normal except my prolactin levels are a little high. My dr asked me to go get blood again and fast this time, so this is what I did last week. I have an appt next week to discuss the results. Prior to this I had no idea what prolactin was. I did some googling of course and learned a bit, and kind of explains why my periods are irregular and cycles are so long... But what are normal prolactin levels? If they are high, do they typically prescribe clomid to get you regular again? Are there side effects?
