Hi all,

Alexander is doing well and the HV seems impressed by his weight gain. He is currently on the 9th centile as he's up to 7lb 3oz at 2w 5d corrected. How's does this compare with your preemies? I know it's low for a term baby but not sure about a 27 weeker.

Some prem's are better at putting weight on than others just like term babies so it's great he is on the 9th centile.

Holly was on the 9th centile for birth weight but quickly dropped down and came home on the 0.4 centile and stayed their until Dec when she moved up to the 2nd centile, although in April when they stop correcting her she will go back to the 0.4!

Thanks. When and why do they stop correcting?

Technically at 2 corrected but they may extend that for some.

My Jonny is a fatty and hit 7lbs the week before his due date. That puts him just under the 25th centile, but Jamie was on the 2nd for ages having dropped completely off the bottom of it in hospital. Fast forward to now and Jamie is between 50-75 so massively caught up. He's 18 months now and thats his corrected centile but to be honest at this stage I tend not to allow a correction for him. Jonny started nursery yesterday cue loads of Mums asking the staff if Jonny was old enough to be there as he looked so small!

My son was born at 34 weeks (6lbs) and has always been at the other end of the chart. For his weight he was always in the 90th centile. They stopped correcting his weight from 1 year old but he wasn't as early as your son so they may continue for 2 years.

They said as for development stages, he will be corrected till he is 2.

xx

Wow great weights there for your bubbas. Ella was ALWAYS well below the 0.4 centile til she was about 13 months and now she's between 9th and 25th centile, as long as theyre gaining weight and continuing to develop thats all that matters in my opinion. Too much time can be spent staring at charts and finding problems just because the don't conform to norms. xx

My little lady is only a couple of ounces heavier than Alexander and she is 8 months and 10 days old!

Even on the specialist low weight chart that has minus % lines on it she's still below all the centile lines for her weight and length.
