Okay, so the other day I had a contraction that was pretty painful (I have an Irritable Uterus so I contract all the time, but they're usually pretty painless) and when I mentioned it to my DH he said, "How do you know you're not dilating?" I told him one contraction was unlikely to do anything, but my curiosity got the better of me and I checked very softly to see if I could even feel my cervix (cleaned my hands very well and wasn't poking hard, just seeing if I could feel it). Usually it's so high I can't reach it, but this time it was right there! And it was soft, too, like the inside of my cheek.

Is that normal for being 25 weeks?

I have no idea have you called your doc or mw? I have been so scared to go anywhere near my cervix but I sometimes feel like it's low. Idk if I'm just freaked out bc this pregnancy has been rough.

No, I haven't called. I just wanted to see if it was totally normal before calling and feeling like an idiot. :dohh:

As for the cervix, I was very used to checking it while TTC, so it wasn't that strange for me to check it now, except I was more gentle obviously. DH was hitting it during DTD the other night  and I know I wasn't nearly as rough as that!

If you're concerned I'd mention it to a doctor but I know for me, it's normal for my cervix to be low, very soft and a little bit open during the last 20 weeks or so of pregnancy. I can easily reach it, I've never struggled to feel it.

I swore my son would be born early because my cervix was so soft and was at least 2cm dilated for weeks, but in the end my waters broke at 39 weeks and I still didn't go into labour without needing inducing!

Thanks. I just wondered if it was normal because I had to go to the hospital at 29 weeks last time around and I know the nurses had to get pretty creative just to find my cervix, so to have it so low was a little unnerving. I think I'll just keep an eye on things and call if anything seems alarming. I definitely don't want to have to go to L&D for no reason, because I found out last time how expensive that trip can be!

I am also used to check my cervix bc I did so as well ttc. I just don't want my hands to carry something up there. I'm a worry over analyzing wart lol.

Yeah, I used to worry more about that until I thought, "Wait, how can my freshly-washed clean hand be any worse than DH's penis?" :haha::winkwink:

Very true. Lol well I'd just run it over with ob or mw. It's probably just how your body is set up. I've heard some woman have a low and slightly open cervix especially if you've had previous pregnancies.
