Cervix Soft and can just get finger in.........had sweep

Has anyone else had this 5 days before EDD and gone into labour soon after? The consultant did a sweep - said its soft, but she can only get tip of finger in (and she had boney hands) and baby needs to come down.

They want me to go soon as baby already measuring 8lbs 14 oz and trying to avoid 2nd c-section or an induction as may not be effective.

I've now been getting a feeling which is not unlike really bad period pains and like my cervix is being stretched........

I have had a sweep done at term plus 5 days and again at term plus 7 days and both times I was told my cervix is soft but still needs to thin out and is posterior so MW could only just reach with tip of one finger. She said she would prefer to get 2 fingers through the cervix up to first finger joint. Sounds like your lucky having period type pains as I have had nothing and getting very fed up now (8 days overdue!). Hope your labour has kicked in for you by now
