Since there is a chance i may have to be induced (fx i wont though!!)
I thought id better think about what my options would be in hospital.

I have severe PGP and the only way i can think that i will be able to do this is in the water where its easier for me to move around.

My hospital had 5 pool rooms so i know that one may be available for me but if i get induced will they let me?

Im not sure exactly what induction entails just yet but im hoping that maybe a waterbirth is still a possibility?

Does anyone know?:flower:

Probably zero hun :hugs:

Ive been induced twice for medical reasons and was refused both times when I asked for a waterbirth. Baby has to be monitored constantly during an induction. It can be more painful too as your natural pain relievers dont have time to kick in.

My first was an all natural birth with just gas and air, with both my inductions I had epidurals that didnt work properly :S

Good luck hun! xx

^^ agree I'm afraid Hun, you have to be monitored so you unfortunately can't have many options for labour x

I was induced with my LO and unfortunately was not allowed to use the pool/bath for pain relief. I spent most of it strapped to the bed. xxx

Yeah I was concerned about being induced last time and would not have been allowed the pool as they like to monitor you. I did arrange a Foley Catheter induction rather than a chemical one (but then went into labour the night before).

i was induced with EJ via a gel pessary and after monitoring they were happy to not have me strapped to the monitors all the time i was allowed the bath for pain relief and they were gonna clean and refill the pool for me once i had moved rooms and was in "active labour " i was over 6cm already though and my waters went and he was there in 30 min so no time lol i beat the lady who was in the pool hehehe. if you dont require an IV for induction and your labour starts easy and you have nice MW's you might just be allowed but its very very rare caus normally they want to be able to monitor you, i think since it was my second natural delivery then they were happier for me since i kinda knew what i was looking at

thats the same as me. the one thing i wanted during labour was to be up and about as much as possible but i wasnt allowed off the bed at all x

^wss. I was only allowed off the monitors to go for a wee x

I'm terrified about the exact same thing... I'm 2 days over now and starting to get really scared at the possibility of being induced - I honestly can't see how I'd cope without birthing in the water - every single position is painful...
My hospital has 2 seperate units - the midwife-led one where they have plenty of pools and water births are encouraged - this is for low risk births and where I'm supposed to be going. But if I had to be induced I'd have to go upstairs to the consultant-led unit so I could be monitored all the time, etc... I'm so scared of this happening. They do have one pool there but I'd say the chances of using it are near to impossible... I'm just getting so stressed and upset at the thought of this!

I'm reading the NICE guidelines for induction and it actually says

The opportunity to labour in water is recommended for pain relief

So you should be able to at least use a pool for pain relief, but maybe not for actual birth.

https://www.nhs.uk/Planners/pregnancycareplanner/Documents/NICE_induction_of_labour.pdf

PDF file of the NICE induction guidelines.

I had that in my guideline booklet they gave me to read before induction too! And when I asked they said no because you have to be strapped to the monitors.
I was induced at 11+ and baby was back to back. I only had gas & air and I honestly didnt believe it was THAT bad. I mean obviously it hurt but I didnt think it was anywhere near as bad as people made out to me beforehand :)

I delivered my son in the pool after induction with prostaglandin. I was monitored for an hour after the pessary then I refused any more monitoring whilst labour progressed. I was in the pool by 7cm and delivered 2 hours later. The midwife was fab.

I had no pain relief bar gas and air - if you needed more pain relief, you weren't allowed to use the pool.

Stick to your guns! If labour is progressing there's no reason (bar convenience for the midwives) to be strapped to the bed. You are allowed to say "no thankyou" No one can make you do something you aren't comfortable with.

Depends what they use to induce you Hun. I had one lot of gel and with just having that I was allowed to walk around outside, go in the bath, use the ball etc and I was only monitered every so often.. same when they broke my waters I just had to be monitered every hour so I imagine they'd let you use a pool then. But when I went onto the drip I was strapped to bed constantly unfortunately :(
