Have been brain storming with my family who are thinking of setting up a charity for families with newborns and young babies. So i need opinions of the idea and whether you would donate or use the charity.

The concept is that once people are finished with baby clothing/toys/bouncers/prams etc they donate these things to the charity (in reasonably good condition) and so the items can be given to those who do not have a lot of money to buy these things (single parents, parents on income support, or jobseekers, or low income etc) these families are able to get a £500 maternity grant for these things, but sometimes that isn't enough, i know already i've spent well over £1000 on baby things (my family have helped out with some things).
There is usually a coat that your baby never gets around to wearing, or an outfit that was worn once for 5 minutes, that ends up in the attic for 10 years. There is usually toys that are played with once and end up being forgotten about, or a pram that was brought and never liked much, or never used much. Wouldn't it be great if the people who had items such as this could pass them onto people who can't afford to buy something like this?

So, if such a charity exsisted (and hey, maybe it does in your area?) but would you donate to this charity if it was easy enough? Give your babies things away knowing they are going to people who need them more? Also, if you needed items like this, and know you couldn't afford them, or would have to go without eating for a month in order to be able to afford them, would you accept the items off a charity? I know some people can be quite proud, and not want 2nd hand items. But what if they were as good as new? Would you turn down a practically new cot that your baby needed? Would you go to the charity shop itself and pick out things that you needed? Or perhaps you just needed a couple of more sleepsuits but you know they will only fit your newborn for a couple more weeks so would rather spend the £10 on something else and get the sleepsuits for free from the charity?

Also, if you did donate to the charity, would you rather go to the shop itself and drop off your things or would you prefer it if someone came to you and picked up the items on a specified day?

Thanks for reading, and please, your opinions are very much needed - thanks again.
