my dd is 3 months and the past few weeks she has been "playing" with the bottle during feedings. She'll like chew and roll it around in her mouth and then start crying and then re-latch and drink for a minute or two then play with it and re-latch and then cry on and on, but eventually she will finish the bottle. Does anyone know what this is about? teething? too slow of a nipple? wanting to start cereal (trying to wait till 6 mths)? shes never fussy and rarely spits up, she does drool a lot, but we arent sure if thats just from her cooing and "talking" a lot or if it could be tooth related? help

its making us crazy!

PJ used to do that. I have no idea what it is about but I guessed it was teething. He's 8 months now and doesn't do it anymore (although he's still teething) Oh and when he started doing that I changed his nipple speed from slow to medium. I'd buy just a couple of medium flow nipples and see how she does with it.

yeah i think i might try they cause it does almost seem like she is getting frustrated.

Poppy has been doing this too. we've put it down to teething and have also gone to the next sized teat.

My lo does this! I keep thinking he has tummy ache though. He sucks his hand though he is hungry then when I give him his bottle cries and pushes it out. I end up putting his dummy in and he sucks to sleep usually. It's really frustrating and I end up wasting loads of milk.

Sorry I haven't been any help. Good luck and keep us informed if the faster flow helps

so we went to a medium nipple. no such luck, it was way too fast and poured out of her mouth. the past week or so we have been using the tri-cut kind. and it doesnt seem to be helping too much either. she does the same thing, chews on her hand but pushes the bottle away and screams >.< at least with the tri-cut it doesnt keep leaking out when she stops sucking to have a screaming fit, so i can just leave it by her mouth until she decided to re-latch. it is so frustrating! but at least i know she isnt the only one being a difficult eater!

It only seems to have happened since sttn. Maybe just a coincidence.

Lets hope it's a phase that will soon pass.

sound like your lo maybe teething. my lo started doing that at 12 weeks old but then stopped when his 2 bottom teeth cut at 16weeks. he has just started to do it again this past week so im keeping my eye out for more teeth :)

try putting some teething gel on your lo's top and bottom gums before feeds to see if that makes a diffrents.
