Chorionic Villus Sampling. My experience

So I had my CVS today. It was nice being able to see the baby again on ultrasound. The technician said baby was very active. Everything checked out fine on the ultrasound. The doctor that did the procedure was great. She explained everything and the procedure itself took less than 1 minute. The only pain I felt which was tiny was from the lidocaine injection. I had some slight cramping for about an hour and just some overall discomfort. I decided to have this done because I needed a definite yes or no. I ultimately wasn't okay with a risk factor or percentage. the doctors that did my CVS is highly experienced and has done thousands of cvs's over the years, so I truly felt comfortable especially with a miscarriage rate of 1/500 with this physician. So only down side is waiting on the results which is about 8-10 days. Unfortunately my OBGYN didn't put in for a FISH so there was a chance if it was added my insurance might not cover it. Oh and she said if she had to guess she thinks it's a girl because it looked flat I between her legs : )

I got a cvs with my 3rd child due to a scare with my second child... Thankfully everything was fine with them both. Like you, I only had mild discomfort after the procedure and the "knowing" and RELIEF was worth it. This time around (4th and last child), I got the maternity12 (or however it's spelled lol) and will hear back on that Monday. Simple blood test.. Loving advanced technology.

Hi,

I had my CVS today and they had to do it transabdominally since my placenta was anterior. That was not fun but it actually was not too bad. I think the anticipation was worse that the actual experience. The bonus was seeing the baby on the ultrasound. He/she was really moving! I had an amnio with my last pregnancy but I was 19 weeks. This time around I wanted to know earlier since I am 40 now. I hope everyone's results were ok. I have to wait up to 2 weeks...urgh! I hope it comes out ok. Good luck to anyone else who is getting this procedure!

Good luck to you too! Hopefully you will have your results in 10 days. Mine came 11 business days. All Chromosomes are normal and it's a girl!
