Do you have any christmas eve traditions?

This is my 2nd christmas with future hubby but last year we decided on setting a christmas eve tradition.

We make sure we get all our jobs done by early afternoon, then after dinner we get into our jammies, lock al doors, close all curtains, then make popcorn & hot chocolate (with squirty cream & marshmellows!) and head into the cinema room to watch christmas movies!

I do my girls a xas eve hamper, putting sweets, popcorn, xmas DVDs and lovely bubble bath and new PJ's and slippers we have a Chinese delivered at about 5pm then bath and watch movies with new things on. We go to the mass in early afternoon which is lovely.

BUT as we normally go to a hotel at xmas I just take the hamper and go with the traditions they have,it is the Lake District
xx

I don't really have any traditions as such just now.. just new jammies on and in bed by 11.30 as I think you have to be sleeping for Santa coming at 12 , but when me and OH move in together it'll probably go something like Buttonnose's.

We used to go to the pub for a few drinkies with the family but we won't be this year. Will probably have a cosy night in with OH and watch a christmas film or something :)

My mum cleans the whole house and my Dad sorts everything we need out for Christmas day. Everyone has a bath quite early, we all put our new pajamas on, they used to be wrapped and put under the tree from santas fairies when we were little lol. And then we all watch a Christmas film and have an early night.

We don't have any but I might think something up that we can start doing with it being LO's 1st Xmas :)

OH's family have christmas dinner on christmas eve at grand parents house then have a few drinks and head off to midnight mass later. I thought it was a bit strange at first but it means christmas day is very relaxing and no one is stressed out cooking. On christmas day they just have a buffet at this parents house and spend the day opening presents (yes there are a lot of presents and everyone has to take turns opening them)

Growing up we did, we opened a gift on Christmas Eve and went to church and things like that, had company over, etc. I would like to start a tradition every year with my boys, such as opening Christmas jammies or something on Christmas Eve then they get to wear them that night or something.

My family did when we were younger, we used to have an xmas eve party at my nans house, she would clear out her bedroom for us to have a disco and play party games. We would all get a visit from one of santas helpers with a prezzie. They were great times and would love to start something for my family soon!!!

The last two years I have been living with OH we just have a buffet tea (like mini chinese and indian starters) then spend the evening together. Unfortunately some times I have to work christmas eve until 2pm and OH potentially until 11pm.

This year we have our wee boy. Nothing different but we will hang his stocking and do our usual.

In the coming years we will get him to write his letter to Santa and post it off with his "santa sack" before christmas, then on the eve we will be making reigndeer food (porridge oats and glitter) and also have a santa stop here sign which we will get him to put up and also sprinkle the magic reigndeer food on the grass. Put out santas milk, biscuit and the carrot. Then me and OH can watch a film and chill....ahhhh. lol

The one i've always done is wearing new PJs on xmas eve night. i would like to start one when we have kids. usually me and my OH go our local for a *few* drinks... i say this every year, we end up getting home at like 11.30-midnight. Obviously when we have kids, things will change.

We have the tradition that my parents started-allowing everyone to open just one pressie (not any of the main ones), i think my parents did it to stop me n my 3 brothers from keep asking to open our presents early and to calm us down.Once we had opened a pressie and played with whatever it was for a bit we ended up wearing ourselves out and sloping off to bed without a fuss.
I once went to a friends house on xmas eve & their tradition was to all get in their jammies and each order whatever tale away food they wanted (even if it meant ordering from 6 seperate take-aways!), which i thought was nice. Might start that one myself (if i have lost 2.5 stone by xmas that is!)
OOOOHHHHHHH I cant wait for christmas now!

Ooo I feel all Christmasy now.

After the general tidy of the house in the morning, me and my eldest daughter make cookies from scratch for santa, then we always make scotch eggs (don't ask why..I don't know why think it's cause my mum always did it so dad would have something to eat when he came home from the pub..lol) we then watch a xmas movie in the afternoon and then in the eve we have gran and grandad over we all have hog roast rolls and home cooked scotch eggs. Then we get the kids bathed and ready for bed with their new pj's and leave out the cookies, milk and carrots. Then tuck them up in bed with a christmas story. Then me and hubby start assembling the toys, and crack open the chocolates...lol...oooo can't wait now!!!!:happydance:

Wow, I love the sound of your Christmas Eve hun, a perfect day! x

during the day we get the last things ready and then I go over to my Mums and my sisters to drop off presents. Love my Mums Xmas eve, all the cook and stuff. So nice! (although quite often one or both of us had to work till 2pm xmas eve )

Then we cook a nice meal, treat outself to a ncie steak (we never normall buy this) glass of wine and then curl up with a movie.

Maybe we'll do the hanging of the stocking and when LO is a bit older put out milk and mince pie for santa :D

My mum does a party and treasure hunt for kids from 2pm until 8pm then home to put out cookies carrots and milk for santa then bed
