I didn't think i was entitled, but have heard a few whispers that i might be - i can't seem to find the information anywhere, so can anyone tell me?
I'm 19 and on maternity allowance, baby due in 7ish weeks - can i also claim working tax credits? (after baby is here i think?)

As far as I know, you cannot claim Working TC whilst on Maternity Allowance as you're not working, but your working partner (if you live together) may be able to claim as your income is now reduced.

Once baby is born, you'll claim Child TC.

But I'm not an expert, so a call to the TC office is suggested!

ma and tax credits...

firstly you do not declare any of your MA in your income its a non taxable benefit.

you will recieve child tax credit

you can apply for the childcare element of wtc if you was working immediatly before going on MA...

whilst you are receiving SMP or MA you are still classed as employed for TC purposes for 39weeks!! so you may get WTC as well

I spoke to the tax credit helpline the other day and yes if previously working and now on MA you are entitled to working tax credits, when you go on the hmrc website put that you are employed and it should work it out, i kept making the mistake of putting not employed as now on MA but they will calculate it on the helpline for you, i was lucky and got a helpful person when i called! good luck hope you get it as they said i should get about £70 a week but i think it is only from when baby is actually born so just check the dates of when you can claim but they will always back date i think for up to 3 months!
