I am so pleased to announce the arrival of my gorgeous little girl Daisy-Mai on sunday at 7.07 am weighing 7lb 6.5oz.

Warning this is long! Hope you enjoy my story, its not intended to scare but some of it was pretty scary - so only read on if you bear that in mind.

Heres how it all happened.

As some of you will know I was fed up with being overdue and was booked in for an induction at 8.30 on saturday morning, which put me at 40+12!

We arrived at the hospital to be shown to a room and left for 2 hours to wait for someone to come and see us. Eventually a midwife came to do a trace for half an hour before they started doing anything, as they already knew I was 2-3cm dilated. This turned into a full hour because they forgot me!
Well it turns out I was contracting but irregular and not something I was really feeling. They decided to do an internal to see if the waters could be broken as giving me the pessary would over stimulate me.
They said that they could break my waters, but labour and delivery was too busy and I would have to wait for a bed. So instead they carried out a sweep and sent me off walking for 2 hours. When I got back they said they would not examine me or trace me for another 2 hours, so was left to watch the olympics!
Another hour went past and I felt I was getting stronger contractions that seemed to be coming every 3 mins. So they put me on a trace and I was!
All they could do though was wait for a bed in labour and delivery so they could break my waters and advised that if one was not available by 9pm I might as well go home as the contractions were not even remotely painful.

So 9 pm I got ready, and off home we went. Got back at 10pm and decided to have a bath and my contractions suddenly got stronger and were coming very quickly! I was having one every 2 mins and very painful, so we phoned and went straight back in, but to labour and delivery to be checked out.
In triage they didnt bother putting me on a trace, just did an internal as they could see my pain, and I was 4 cm and in labour!!!
They moved me to a room and put me on a monitor and gave me a shot of diamorphine, it was just after midnight by this point. I had prevoiusly tested positive for Group B Strep, so had the IV antibiotics set up.
By 3am the contractions were on top of each other and I wasnt get much space between, so opted for an epidural. They came in at 3.30 to adminster which was hard with back to back contractions. Keeping still though one of those bad boys was hard!
It only numbed one side and I was getting break through pain, so they had to keep adjusting it and me! I kept telling them how painful the contractions still were, but I think they thought I was a drama queen! By this point it was 4.30am and I had not had an internal since I had arrived. So the midwife said she would have a look but thought that it would be a while yet - um no! I was fully dilated! Hence the really bad pain, I was going though transition!

They then left it an hour to get baby to move down, all the while monitoring LO's heart beat. Well her heart beat kept dipping, so they started me pushing to get her out.
By 6.30 her heart was getting worse and the docs were called to have a look. I was pushing well, and she was moving down, but her heart rate was dipping dangerously low each time. They disappeared, and came back 5 mins later (she was amazing by the way!) she said she had to go into theatre but wasnt happy to do so until my baby was out. She let me try a few more pushes, but she wasnt happy and wanted to get baby out quickly.
She advised a forceps delivery there and then in the room, even though the epidural was wearing off. She just told me to be strong as we need her out.
Everything was set, and the doc calmly talked me though the whole thing and helped me get through the pain.
As her head came out the realised that she had opened her bowels inside me to a horrific degree. They pulled her out and she was covered in it, apparently there was a tidal wave of poo that followed after her when she came out. They rushed her off to give her suction and clear her lungs etc.
She was born at 7.07am weighing 7lbs 6.5oz.
And then thats when things got scary.
The took her temp which was sky high, so they called the paed to look at her. They were not happy at all, and could not figure out if it was the strep b or the meconium. They went outside the room to talk and came back in and said they would have to move her to the transitional care ward for IV antibiotics for at least 48hrs. They whisked her off and my OH went with her.
By the time I had got up to the ward they had her IV all set up and were monitoring her.
Well the stayed turned into 3 days, but she eventually got the all clear and we came home today.
She has been given a clean bill of health and is a beautiful happy healthy little girl.
The whole thing was a little scary, but the staff were amazing. So supportive and calming. I owe them so much for acting quickly and making the right decisions.
If I can give advice to any expectant mums, is to be open minded about your labour and what happens after. If I hadnt been, I think I would have struggled to cope with what happened so much more. Also dont be scared of intervention, they intervene for reasons, and it really wasnt that bad.

Wow scary bless you thank goodness she is home with you now, congratulations! xx

Wow, how scary! Did they say why she had that reaction?

Congratulations, sorry you had a scary time x

Congrats :)
How scary though glad everything ended up ok in the end though
