Obviously stuff that can be washed goes straight in the washing machine. But how are you cleaning it out of carpets/sofas etc.

And what about the cot mattress? Ds wee'd all over his mattress earlier after I stripped him for a bath :dohh: it's a breathable mattress so the wee has sunk in - I daren't use any chemical cleaner on it - it's his mattress!!!

Can't remember for the life of me what we did with dd!

Carpet - get a damp cloth and wipe as much off as possible, then let it dry, spray dry carpet shampoo on it and vacuum it up. Works every time for wee and poo.

Mattress - wipe down the outside with a damp cloth, blot dry with towel and then put it outside to air dry in the sun. Not much else you can do here.

We use a home made vinegar and water cleaner to clean up the couch and the carpet. Washables of course go in the washing machine and the hard floors are easy to clean.

We have a waterproof mattress cover on the bed since we cosleep with my 2.5 year old as well, also the mattress is new.

We use Vanish on carpet and furniture. As for the mattress, on our mattress (we bedshare), we often tend to use Vanish and then just lots of airing out until it dries. On her mattress, there is a zipper top to it, so it just zips off and we chuck it in the wash and then I wipe down the plastic layer underneath with a natural spray cleaner (like Ecover). If I didn't have the option to unzip it and put it in the wash, I'd wash it with some sort of soap and hot water and maybe some essential oils like lavender or tea tree, which mask odours well, and leave it to dry in a well-ventilated room.

I have a steam cleaner which can be used on carpets, mattresses, fabrics etc.
