please decipher!!

My clinic has a 62% clinical pregnancy rate for IVF with blastocyst transfer - what is blastocyst transfer?!?!

Clinical Pregnancy Rates for my age group....
41.7% per egg collection
46.9% per embryo transfer

Out of those pregnancies...
63.4% singletons
35.2% twins
1.4% triplets

Does this look good for those of you who have researched IVF clinics?!?!

Muchos Gracias petit pois :hugs:

A blasto is an embryo thats left to develop for a few more days before implantation. 5 days after fertilisation. The reason the success rate tends to be higher is because ones that dont develop into a blasto wouldn't have led to a successful pregnancy and that way you are getting higher quality embryos transferred as they've made it past embryo stage. IYKWIM?

Those stats were a lot better than the clinic I was going to go to and they said they were the most successful clinic in the north.

Fantastic Kirstin thanks - if my clinic mentions it's success with blasto's on the front page of their website - do you reckon you can request it?x

Yes, if they are advertising its success then I would ask, sometimes they wont decide until after egg collection and fertilisation, they will go over all the process for you but they are less likely to put 2 blastos back in because of the higher chances of a multiple pregnancy.

It mostly always depends on the number of embryos. If you only had 2 eggs collected and two fertilised then they'd put them back in on day 2 because there is nothing to choose from. If you got, say, 20 eggs and 15 fertilised then they'd leave them for as long as possible so that a 'front runner' is visible. This might be on day 3 or, if they are progressing well, day 5. They will always put back the best quality embryo. Some 'drop off' after day 2 or 3 and they make the decision based on the behaviour and the progress of the embryos. There's always a chance that NONE will make it to blastocyst, sadly...

Sounds really good to me. I'm sure our ACU was in the 30s percent.

Of the frosties we had 2 were blastocysts and 4 were just embies. They let the ones that were looking a bit weaker grow on to see if they were worth freezing. Down side we have discovered since donating them, is that blastocysts don't defrost quite as successful as embryos.

Thanks guys. Apparrently our nhs clinic doesn't offer blasts but since the embryologist works at a separate clinic I've been advised to speak to them directly after egg collection. If there are no shining eggy examples after 24 hours then the embryologist will consider blasts.

I'm eternally optimistic, I think you have to be. Life is very bitter and dull when you fill it with negativity :dust:

I was bitterly disappointed when I was not taken to Day 5 with my embryos but I had 2 replaced at Day 3 and it looks like at least ONE of them stuck (I hope...)

I spoke to the embryologist as to why they did not wait until Day 5 and she just said "Because we prefer them to be inside of you." She said that the two put back were the obvious front runners and therefore there was no reason to wait the extra 2 days.

So day 3 is not so bad. It really does depend on when your embryos develop/how they develop.

I think Blastocysts are great to see which are front runners but clinics will not put more than one back in, so if you don't want to risk twins its worth doing if you can. I think it will largely depend on what happens at that time. My nurse said to me in reality most women don't have loads of embryos to choose from so they end up doing day 3. If you have loads to choose from they may well wait to do a blastocyst. When will you be doing ICSI? I am starting down regging mid to end of August.

We have our appt in October so hopefully cycle complete before Crimbo!
We got some awesome results today as well -DH's count has doubled but more importantly his morpholoy is up to 55% so the clinic are very happy - gives me hope! as for twins or singletons... 2 girls at my clinic have found out they are having twins in the last 10 weeks. I'm happy with whatever i get! :happydance:

So sorry to see you back here Brambletess - FX your cycle is 'it' :hugs:

CS - yep my clinic said the same thing - embies thrive in the correct environment i.e. my womb!!
