I am on my 3rd month of taking Clomid and unfortunately it has not proved successful. I am due to see my consultant in just under two weeks and was wondering if any of you knew what the next step my be when he knows that Clomid failed. I have endured various side effects whilst taking this hormone and will be asking my consultant if there is an optional route...I am hoping someone will be able to help me..perhaps offer some insight!

What comes next!!!!

Many thanks...Always Yearning.x

Hi Yearning. You may get upped more on the dose or get it in conjuction with shots or another hormone. After that or sometime there you may take some time off, then there is the IU or IVF option... there are really sooooo many options, it is something your Dr. will know best and you should definitely feel comfortable outright as each has their own plan for you. Please keep us posted and bes of luck.

I genuinely don't think I could bear it if my consultant opted to up the dose, I have suffered anxiety attacks, hot sweats, dry mouth, severe mood swings and nights plagued by dreams. I will inform him of this and hope that he empathises with my situation...there must be something else they can put me on.....I couldn't endure anymore fits of madness, I felt as though I was on the brink of insanity at certain points. Thanks for your response.

Hi Yearning, i'm in exactly the same situation as you hun, i just don't think i could take another 3 months of clomid on the 50mg dose, let alone the 100mg.

My appointment isn't for another 4 weeks, so i'dbe really interested in the outcome of yours.

Thinking of you

hun, when u say unsuccesfull do u mean by not getting pregnant or not clomid not working as in not ovulating?

I have just finished my 6 cycle and it has een making me ovulate each month, i am now booked in for a lap and dye. if you are responding to clomid i think yor doctor will give you another 3 months. he will only increase the dose if you are responding to it.

hope this helps x

They are not monitoring me yet in regards to whether or not I have been ovulating, I found this very strange....I was refering to not concieving.

I have already had a lap and dye before I was prescribed 50mg of Clomid, I will do all I can to persuade my consultant to consider another route...trust me 100mg would see me sectioned...I'm not prepared to allow myself to go through that, especially if other options are available.

We shall see, I will keep this updated!

Thanks for your response.

Hey Yearning,

This is also my third month of Clomid. It's had absolutely no affect on me, my body doesn't respond to it. My specialists next form of action is injections. Injections are supposed to have much better results than Clomid, with much less side affects. I expect this could be your next step also? especially since Clomid is giving you terrible side effects as it is.

Hope this helps a little x

Hi

It sounds like you are having a really hard time on the Clomid. I have been lucky with not many side effects although I take my dose at night which means I wake up in a hot sweat but thats about it. YOu probably already do that though so ignore me! I have been so lucky with my health authority as they monitor me with 14 day scans and then 21 day bloods. The 50 mg didn't work but I am now on 100mg with an injection and I am ovulating but not getting pregnant yet! I am on round 5 of clomid and they will give me another go and then on to IUI which is where they wash the sperm and go for artificial insemination.

Hope that helps,

Millnsy x

I too am going back after my last round (see him on Tuesday). I don't know what the course of action will be, but I prefer more testing before more drugs, but only because they don't know why things aren't happening for me.

Thank you for all of your responses, I must admit that I am so fed up with everything and would just prefer to skip directly to IUI.

I know that this is not likely to happen but we are in our 8th year now of trying to concieve and I don't think that I can take much more heart ache..

Clomid and I don't mix and if I am truthful with myself I am anxious regarding taking any other drugs, you all probably think that I am a wimp but I can assure you they made me quite ill both physically and mentally.
I just hope that my consultant understands.....and acts accordingly.

I will keep everyone updated.

Always Yearning.x
