Clomid... How long ttc before before your Dr prescribed clomid??

I'm wondering how long did you have to wait until your doctor prescribed clomid? I have very regulated cycles and get a positive opks every month on CD11 and ovulate CD12 (I also temp). We've been trying for 5 months but so far I didn't get pregnant. I understand this is not a long time and I know that many woman TTC for a year and longer with no success. But I'm wondering how long did you have to wait before your doctor prescribed clomid? Also, did you have any exams done before starting clomid?
