Hiya, I'm not O'ing on my own and have an appointment with the doctor next week to discuss my options. I've got a few questions for any ladies on Clomid:

Has anyone been prescribed Clomid on the NHS? Did you just get it from the doctor and go away and take it and use OPKs or did you have to go for ultrasounds and stuff? I've been reading that normally provera is given to induce AF then Clomid is taken on days cd3-7, but I don't know if I'll need to get referred to fertility specialists or if it's just Clomid first then fertility specialists? I have confirmed PCOS so the doctor has already said no further tests are needed at this stage.

Also, did you have to be actively TTC for a set length of time before they would prescribe Clomid? We've been NTNP for 6 months but I've not had AF since coming off dianette and I've been temping and using OPKs so I'm pretty sure I'm not O'ing.

Finally, is there a maximum BMI that the doctor will prescibe Clomid for? I'm losing weight but my BMI is still on the wrong side of 30.

Thanks in advance x

I was told clomid is only for non-ovulatory PCOS here and unless your 'previously diagnosed' with a fertility issue then you have to wait a year to be refered for FS testing

why dont you think your ovulating?

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 after blood work and an ultrasound. After that I was on metformin and provera for a while. This brought AF back but my cycles were very long and irregular so the doctor said they were most likely anovulatory. I was on dianette from 2010 till earlier this year and since coming off it I've not had AF. I'm back on metformin, and vitex but I know I'm not O'ing as I've been temping and had no thermal shift, no EWCM and no positive OPKs

if you have known PCOS you can get referred earlier without waiting the full year I think but GPs cant prescribe clomid here like in america so you'll be transfered to a FS this can take upto 6 weeks

I had irregular cycles and fought the doctor for clomid (they insist its only for PCOS) I managed to get some and found clomid regulated my cycles so they werent irregular anymore (now only a day or 2 off if they are at all instead of weeks) but it didnt help concieve, it only took 1 cycle to 'reset' my periods and they have been regular for over a year now except for the 2 times I had surgery/surgery based drugs (anastesia always makes my cycle longer)

in answer to your question I just OPK'd but I think many people get scans, but I was just on a very low dose

your BMI maybe a problem but I dont know because im the opposit (wrong side of 20)

I think AF might finally be on her way so finger crossed my cycles are coming back. Thank you for all the advice, I'm clueless about fertility treatments and things so it's good to get info from someone who has been through it, hope you get your BFP soon xx

Hi,

I dont have PCOS but i had been trying for around a year and a half with no luck. I went to my GP and told her i thought i might have PCOS (as i had a few symptoms) so she said she would send me to have blood tests and also refer me to a fertility clinic. She also told me my partner would have to have a sperm test.

My bloods came back fine and i dont have PCOS. I got my appointment for the fert clinic and met the doctor there,. He asked me a few questions and said he would prescribe me clomid (I had long cycles) so he hoped the clomid would regulate my cycles. I also would need to go back and have my tubes checked.

50mg of clomid didnt work for 2 cycles so last month i upped it to 100mg (the doc said to do this) and last month i had a perfect 28 day cycle :) So now its just waiting. If it doesnt work for the next two cycles im going to ask for an appointment to see him again to see what the next steps are.

Hope this helps.

Edit: Also my BMI is the wrong side of 30. They did say i need to try and lose weight. Im on slimming world anyway.

First of all, I LOVE the "wrong side of 30" comment!!!

Any side effects from the provera? how about the clomid? Any additional weight gain from either one? I am also on the wrong side of 30 lol so I am terrified to gain anymore

I was referred after 6 months ttc after coming off the pill but I had a long history of irregular bleeding. The fact I was spotting so much was the main factor. The gp did blood tests and oh had to get a SA done then we were referred. The gp said my bloods didn't show PCOS. A previous gp had also told me this.

On my first appt they did a scan and showed typical PCO but I have no other symptoms. The fs also said my bloods showed typical PCOS pattern (grrr GP)

I had to have other treatment but when I was given the all clear to start clomid the FS gave me a letter for my GP who then wrote the prescription. I went for an ultrasound on day 13 to see if anything was happening, check I wasn't overproducing eggs and discuss dosage.

I temped and used opk but the dr said they don't recommend them as it can stress you out but I felt calmer and more in control.

The clomid side effects were ok, mainly mood swings and hot flashes. I didn't have any from the progesterone which I've taken a few times.

I got my BFP after 3 cycles, and only the second time I think I've ovulated in my whole life.
