Ok, I had wanted as natural a birth as possible, but was open to some medication.

I had some contractions the day after I was due, two incidences where they would last two hours and stop. Hubby and I got to bed late that night (June 2), and as soon as I got into bed, I started having contractions again. I stayed up all night, timing contractions. I let my hubby sleep lol. I called my mom the next morning, telling her I thought I was in labor and to drive over (she lives two hours away). She got there around 10 am.

It was really nice to have her there because she is a Labor and Delivery nurse, who is very interested in midwifery and doulas, so she was helping me with natural pain management techniques and different positions. My pain was all back labor, I wanted pressure on my back and that was it! My husband was so awesome, he pushed and rubbed on my back during EVERY contraction, he was with me the whole time and was so supportive.

At 3:30 pm I decided I needed some pain medication, and we headed in to the hospital. I was checked and was at 5 centimeters and 100% effaced! At this point I was having a really hard time controlling my breathing during the contractions, for some of them I was almost writhing in pain. I got some Fentanyl, which didn’t touch the pain, so then I got something else, I don’t remember what it was called (sorry!) But the second type of medication put me into a woozy state and the contractions were manageable again.

At 7 centimeters, my labor stalled. I was stuck at 7 for 5 hours. At that point, I decided an epidural would be best so that I could get some rest. Amazing, it took away all the pain, but then I was too excited to sleep :-p I was also given a low dose of pitocin to help me dialate.

Within a couple hours I was feeling really itchy and a little nauseous (probably brought on by not eating hardly anything since my labor started). Luckily it was time to push! I pushed for half an hour, and it actually didn’t hurt very bad up until the last two contractions. Baby came out a BOY, at 2:47 am on June 4th. My hubby was sobbing, he was so overcome. I had one little tear, which took a few stitches to repair. The placenta was delivered 4 minutes later, and I didn’t feel that or the stitches. I was and still am quite enamored by my baby :D

His name is Colin, he weighed 8 lbs 8 oz, and is 20.25 inches long! :cloud9:
