Ds us 17 weeks old & is collapsing his bottle teats. Do I move him up a size? The next size for us is 6mths plus so I feel it's too early for that.... But collapsing teats suggests otherwise.

Any experience of using 6mth teats in younger babies??

Are you using Tommee Tippee? Because we always had a problem with those collapsing no matter what the size.

No we're using avent. Never had this issue before. We moved up teat sizes the other times because he was coming off the bottle & crying several times during a feed. Then he happily had the next size up.

Might have to try it out...

Could be worth going the next size up sounds like he's sucking hard to get a fast flow again, or if that doesn't do the trick I used nuby bottles and found them really good bottles teats didn't collapse at all with them xx

We moved up the next size when she was almost 3 months old, even though the age recommendation was for 4+ months due to collapsing teats, and she's happy as a clam on them. :) She has started to collapse a couple of the brands but it's not so bad that it's frustrating her yet so we are waiting to move up. Sounds like yours is ready though.

I've tried the next size up. They're size 4 and recommended from 6months plus and ds is only 4 months.

He's collapsing evey teat at feeds on size 3. Size 4 is better, but a bit dribbly and we're getting milk soaked Muslins. It's like he's right in between the two sizes. I'm going to keep going with size 4 for now - he has a cold & isn't finishing feeds anyway due to a blocked nose. I think he'd have even less if he had to work hard for it!

If he still struggles with the 4s put a pin hole in the 3s to make them 3 1/2

I think we might have to do this. We've gone back to 3's but he's collapsing them at every feed. The milk almost won't come out they're that squashed down!

But the 4 teat ends up with a soaked muslin/shirt every time :dohh:

It's what I've done with our 4s as DS has thickened milk

He just collapsed the 4s but couldn't handle the variflows

Worked a treat :)

Is there a small airflow vent type thing in the advent bottles? The tommee tippee teats collapse if the little vent things aren't open properly. Just squeeze it or poke it with something to open the vent when you're cleaning them. This lets the air out when lo is drinking. I do it every few days x

My bottles are an old style and have a separate ring that comes out when cleaning. So there's no vent or anything - it all comes apart every time. Thanks for the tip though.

Making a hole hasn't helped. I'm going to just go with the 4's - he can't be far off catching up with the speed!!
