Are there any single mummies on here that have gone to college whilst on benifits is it possible financially like will I lose my income support etc and does anyone know who I need to talk to about it?? X

could you speak to a lone parent advisor at the job center? x

The problem with my job centre is they are all pretty much useless they either give me the wrong information or cant answer my questions, I wish it was easier to try and sort all this out, I really want to get some more qualifications so I can get a decent job that can work around my LO, I already have a college qualifiacation in horse management but its impossible to work there hours around sophia :(

i would like to know this aswell so will be watching this thread :) xx

I dont think it affects any of your benefits... a friend of mine done a college course and as far as i know it didn't affect her money.... your local college will have details for you... and you dont pay for courses either i dont think.. x

I went to university to do my degree in nursing. They pay you £800 a month + childcare costs for the privilege :D. I think I got most of my housing benefit as well if I remember rightly. Might be not what you're interested in but you definitely get looked after well.

I am a single mother in TN and Im going to a Community College. I was able to recieve Pell Grants because I made under a certain amount of money in the state of TN which is (36,000). I also have benefits for my litte girl London, and I havent lost any of it! You should be able to receive aid because you are a single mother. I dont know if you have the same thing as we do in TN but inorder to get rewarded money for school you would have to fill out a FAFSA account.

I am planning on doing an evening course one night a week.. still waiting to see if they will fund it though but it does say that they prioritise lone parents. Not sure about full time courses though.. maybe try the Citizen's advice.. When it comes to students and benefits, it seems to be a bit of a grey area in the jobcentre.

xx

It depends how old you are if your over 21 you have to pay for your course. I've jusy finished college and nothing gets stopped and the nursery was covered completely by care to learn as I was under 19 maybe speak to conexions? Or the college about whether there's fees x
