This is really embarrassing and a whole lot of TMI, so don't say I didn't warn you :haha:

Last week Wednesday I had a colposcopy and cervical biopsy done. Overall, it wasn't bad and there was a small bit of bleeding after, but my doctor had forewarned me about that and reassured me that it wasn't anything to worry about. He also told me that he used some sort of artificial scab type stuff on my cervix to stop the bleeding and that it would come back out looking like coffee grounds.

Well, the last couple days I've noticed some really odd discharge - (TMI warning) it looks almost like the tissue that comes out when you get your period minus the blood that comes with it. Its like clumps of tissue that is the color of old blood. There have been lots of tiny clumps and then last night there was a huge clump of it.

I'm starting to freak out a little. The discharge I'm getting looks nothing like coffee grounds at all so I don't think it's the scab stuff. But I have no idea what else it could be. I think I'm even more worried because I'm scared it might have something to do with my pregnancy. Baby has been moving around great and I haven't had any severe cramping or bleeding or anything, so that's a little reassuring at least.

But my doctor never warned me about this kind of discharge at all and I'm getting really scared and freaked out. Does anyone have any experience with this or know what it could possibly be? Thanks in advance :flower:

Wow I have never ever heard of conducting a cervical biopsy while pregnant? For my understanding it can weaken your cervix and cause preterm labor due to cervical incompetency. My dr refuses to touch cervix while pregnant. No experience but I would definately go get seen at your LD department.

Did you just get a biopsy or a LEEP?

I am fairly certain that a simple cervical biopsy does not carry the same risks as a LEEP, cone biopsy or any other similar procedure. Even so, with procedures like LEEPs, the risk of preterm labour and cervical incompetence is not great.

I had a LEEP done about 10 years ago and I remember very strange discharge afterwards, it was close to tissue. But it did not resemble anything I would get with my period. I'm not sure if it's the same as what you're experiencing. Either way, I would ask your doctor. Good luck.

The biopsy I got wasn't a LEEP procedure or a cone biopsy, just a simple, quick outpatient procedure.

The doctor who did the procedure is also the doctor I'm seeing for my pregnancy and the infertility issues I had before getting pregnant, so I trust that he wouldn't have done the biopsy if there was a significant risk to me or the baby.

I have an appointment on Tuesday so I'll definitely ask him about it when I go in. There aren't any cramps or anything that make me think that I'm in any sort of preterm labor, so I'm not too worried about that. Thank you for your replies, ladies. :flower:

The discharge does sound normal i have had this procedure as well as a cone bx and mine was similar. im really supprised that he even did a biopsy. i was due for my smear when i got pregnant and im a high risk patient due to having CIN3 but they still said they wont touch me which i was happy about ( not that i would let them) all the best for the remainder of your pregnancy and im sure everything is fine :)

I dont remember having this with my cervical procedure but I had a polypectomy and a d+c at the same time so it's probably different! Did they give you a number to call if you have any concerns? If not maybe give labour and delivery a call to put your mind at ease if nothing else :)

I forgot to mention.... Not to alarm you but I had funny blood tinged discharge around 26 weeks and thought nothing of it with no cramping or cx. Turned out my cervix had randomly shortened from 3.8 to 2.1 in a week. Ask your dr to measure your cervix length from here on out. However please know that your cervix can shorten rapidly without cramping just discharge. In your case I'm sure it's bc of the procedure but I just thought I'd mention it xo

I had weird tissue stuff with mine. I wasn't pregnant though. It was actually quite gross and I was unprepared for it. They just warned me about the coffee ground stuff. But I asked and they said it was normal to get that tissue stuff too. I would call though. It never hurts!
