I woke up at 3am on Thursday 3/29/12 to what felt to me like really bad period cramps. They didn't progress or come and go, just pretty constant cramps. By 9 am I went to the hospital to be checked for my peace of mind and I was dilated to 3 cm- which was 2 more cm since my appt 2 days before. The doc on call had me stay and walk the hospital for an hour and then rechecked me- an hour later I was at 5 cm and they admitted me. Within the next few hours I was getting some pretty strong and painful contractions with what seemed like no rest in between and when I got to 7cm at 3pm I couldn't bear the pain and opted for an epidural. I instantly felt relief, and could still feel my legs and still feel the ability to push even with the epidural. My waters broke on their own within a half hour of getting the epidural but as soon as they did I developed a fever that ultimately spiked to 101.8 degrees. At this time I was at 10cm and ready to push and I knew that he needed to be delivered soon else I would end in an emergency c-section. I pushed through a total of 6 contractions (which was about 18 pushes) and my bundle of joy was born. I suffered a second degree tear but despite that I'm doing very well. Because of my fever, my doc feared I also had an infection of the amniotic fluid and Colton has been treated with antibiotics as a precaution. We are awaiting his final clearance at 8pm tonight, as so far all of his cultures have come back negative. We'll be going home this evening if the repeat culture also returns clear. Fingers crossed. And for those of you who knew, my husband was able to get a flight home that day and made it with about an hour or so to spare before his son entered the world. It was the most amazing day.

Without further ado, here is my precious boy Colton. My husband is Asian and I am Caucasian. He is a mini me of my DH.

It sounds like a pretty great first birth to me. Fingers crossed you get to go home tonight.
If I can pass on one pearl of wisdom it's to make sure you have a jug of warm water next to the toilet to pour as you pee!.
Keep in touch. X
