My husband and I have a rule that middle names are family names. My DD is Caroline Amanda (for my sister). So this DD will have a middle name from his family. DH wants Maryellen for his grandmother who helped raise him etc. I'm totally fine with this, except....our last name is also Kunhardt. I don't want her to have an EXTREMELY long name, or one that she has to explain how to pronounce.
I really like Katie Maryellen but DH says he likes it but thinks it might be too plain  Any suggestions?

Sounds like you're looking for a 1 syllable first name? Some suggestions-

Rose Maryellen Kunhardt
Anne Maryellen Kunhardt
Paige Maryellen Kunhardt
Belle Maryellen Kunhardt
Jane Maryellen Kunhardt
Fern Maryellen Kunhardt
Pearl Maryellen Kunhardt
Faith Maryellen Kunhardt
Eve Maryellen Kunhardt
Fleur Maryellen Kunhardt
Claire Maryellen Kunhardt
Grace Maryellen Kunhardt
Blair Maryellen Kunhardt
Brooke Maryellen Kunhardt

Xxxx

I think it's nice to use family names, but with something like "Maryellen" which is long, as is your surname, I'd think about using either Mary or Ellen or combining it to something like Marielle (Mary-L)?

Lots of names go with Maryellen though and it doesn't sound too long to me, seeing as the middle name is rarely said all together.
Lyla Maryellen
Keira Maryellen
Joy Maryellen
Amber Maryellen
Nicole Maryellen

Thank you ladies, I appreciate the input. DH is just difficult :growlmad: I really want Eloise but he refuses. lol

I think it's fine to have a long middle name with a longer surname and your surname isn't that long. I'm not sure how it works in the USA but here in the UK middle names are only ever used in official circumstances such as marriage, baptism, on bank cards etc. My 2nd son has a long name, Alexander Thomas David Japp but day to day he's Alex Japp. In school he will be Alex Japp. As an adult in work he will be Alex or Alexander Japp (whatever he chooses).

Katie Kunhardt isn't a plain or long name and Katie Maryellen Kunhardt is perfectly acceptable for a 'Sunday name' as we call it :) Likewise with Eloise :)

Thank you, I'm getting pretty stuck on Katie actually. I know it's simple but for some reason I feel like it will fit her if that makes sense. We just cant seem to agree on girls names! all we have is the middle name! I love love love Eloise but Dh refuses :nope:

Yeah we are the same. If we could find one name both of us remotely liked we'd be happy lol.

Caroline and Cathrine go together nice

Cathrine Mayellen Kunhardt doesnt look to long to me when she will probably not go by both anyway

Caroline Amanda
Catherine Maryellen
^ it only appears 3 letters longer

Kathryn Maryellen
Katelyn Maryellen

Both can have the nickname "Katie"

I don't think the names are too complicated or too long!

Katelyn Maryellen
Caroline Amanda

They are both the same # of syllables - perfect!
