Me and my boyfriend have recently started TTC (1/23) to be exact:hugs:, so I am waiting until 2/4 (2weeks) to test. Problem is I have a terrible irregular period. AF came last month forcefully because I was taking BC. But I've yet to get her this month(projected date was 1/28). Any of you ladies ever conceived with an irregular period? I need hope but the doubt is high!

If you have time please read my first post for a full explanation of my situation. I am desperately TTC. :(

Hey, I didn't want to read and run. You may not necessarily be having an irregular period. Some women take 3-6 months to get a period after BC. I should know, I am CD56 after coming off Dianette and still no period!!!

@Wtbam - but AF was irregular before I started BC last month. Prior to taking the BC last month, I didn't have a period for monthsssss. So I got BC to regulate AF, she came on last month, and left around the 3rd but has yet to return this month.. My BF ejaculated in me for the 1st time on 1/23 and has done so 3 more times since then. I'm waiting until 2/4 to test and I'm desperately hoping for a BFP!

I have also always had an irregular period. No explanation until a couple days ago. I would have one to six months between my periods. I was just put on progesterone and Clomid to help ovulation. If you havent been to an obgyn I highly suggest going so that they can figure it out for you. I was ttc for a year before I made the decision to go and have tests done. Best decision I have made.

@Allison22 - and what was the outcome when you went an got your tests done? any luck with concieving?

I was just put on progesterone and Clomid. Ill start the Clomid on day 3 of my cycle. As excited as I would be for the bfp I know that I need to get my cycles regular in order for that to happen. Baby steps but I have heard so many success stories with Clomid that I feel.pretty good about the doctor putting me on it.

Hello I also had extremely irregular periods only 1 a year so after ttc for a year frustrated I went to ob who put me on metformin GREAT STUFF. I went from 1 period a year to a 55 day cycle one month 28 day cycle the next and 27 cycle the next month on this last cycle started 1/17 doc wanted to add clomid as I wasn't ovulating even with AF I was prescribed 50 mg cd3-7 so my last pill was 1/23 6 days later I actually ovulated 1/29 currently 2dpo so I credit it to metformin getting me regular and clomid making me ovulate . You should deft go see ob

Can I suggest something? Many women seem to struggle with irregular periods and a lot of the time this seems to be due to a hormone imbalance that is caused by environmental toxins/factors. I have been ttc for 9-10 months or so and found out recently through my naturopath that I have an elevated level of estrogen, which could make conceiving more difficult. So yes, irregular periods will make it more difficult to conceive because of a possible hormone imbalance, which can be detrimental to your health and fetus if you do get pregnant. I'm hoping for a bfp this month but here is what I'm doing to balance my hormones, if any of you ladies want to give these options a try before getting on medication, or if you want to switch to these gentler methods. These recommendations are generally great to do anyway for overall hormone health, even if you don't have any issues.

1. First, I got on raw royal jelly, 2 tsp a day. Y.S. brand is pretty good, I get mine from my naturopath. Royal jelly is not only good for balancing hormones, but it is a superfood and is great for you and can be taken throughout pregnancy as it is super nutritious. A lot of women noticed an increased fertility and have gotten pregnant after taking royal jelly (as this is what the queen bee eats to live years vs. the short life span of worker bees, and this is what she feeds the many bee babies she makes). Please make sure you are not allergic to royal jelly first, so try a small dose in the beginning.

2. The second thing to try is essential oils. Mixed with a carrier oil like almond oil or coconut oil, mix 2-3 drops of peppermint, clove, and lemongrass. I currently use doTerra brand because they seem like great quality oils. Apply to thyroid and surrounding neck areas, including the hollow of the neck once a day. Also, make sure you are not allergic to any of these (especially lemongrass) before you use them regularly.

3. Third, I recommend UltraPollen by Premier Research Labs (or a pollen mix supplement). Watch out for imposters selling this brand.

I'm currently doing all these things and more as I'm very health oriented and want to keep my hormone levels in check, especially since I am ttc. Let me know if you have questions or if you decide to try any of these, good luck to all!

Hi there! I also had irregular periods for YEARS. Like, as in from when they started ages 12, until about 8 months ago (I am nearly 27).
Like Anjali, I was suffering from elevated estrogen levels. It wasn't drastic - my GP said it wasn't significant enough to cause fertility issues - but it was causing cycles anywhere between 40 and 70 days, which naturally was very frustrating.

Weirdly, for me, my cycles became regular every 30 days once I started taking antidepressants! I have mentioned this to my GP and another doctor; they have never encountered this before. I have suffered from depression since my teens; it could be that the added stress due to this was causing a hormone imbalance and delaying ovulation.

My advice is to take a look at your lifestyle, which may offer you some answers. Are you under/overweight? Do you have a lot of stress in your life, either from a job or in your home/family life? It could be due to a lot of reasons. Speak to a doctor if you're concerned, who will be able to order some blood tests and rule out gynecological complications such as PCOS.

Good luck with TTC :) xx

I've been extremely irregular for the last year or so (coming off depo)- I got 2 bfp's, but both ended early (also messing with my cycle). The biggest help for me was charting- it let me know if/when I ovulated. Because ovulation varied, opk's kind of helped- i never got a true positive, but most definitely ovulated! But, once ovulation did occur, I learned that I could always expect AF 14-16 days after the temp rise (except for bfp cycles). It also gave me an idea that the pregnancies were ending when I saw the drop... I think that helped to prepare me!

I have a friend that has been ttc and has a very irregular period... She has gone through a lot of the same things as the other posters, gotten her cycle regulated, and is now on Clomid. The first obstacle is getting your cycles regulated. Good luck to you!
