We're still using infant milk 1 (aptamil), but I was reading about follow on milk when you are weaning, so am confused....do they mean when you start weaning or when weaning and meals are more food than formula?

I give LO his bottles (to which he drinks 3-5oz. per time) and then at lunchtime, a few spoonfuls of today's food (apples, bananas on M,T and rice ceral last week; tomorrow - apples AND bananas!) and then at dinner-time, bottle and more of today's food, but he drinks about 6-7 bottles overall throughout the day (reflux and he does drink around his required amount per day, altho as in a previous thread, is drinking a bit less now that I am offering food).....

when do you go to follow-on milk?

(also posted in weaning section)

thanks

It might be different in this country  but I'm just changing to the second stage milk at 6 months like it says on the tin. So when his current tin of formula runs out, I'll be buying the stage 2 one next time because he'll turn 6 months on Tuesday. That's what our pead advised us last time we saw her.....she said don't forget to change to stage 2 milk at 6 months.

Out of curiosity.......is there not an age on the follow on milk there? Does it just say to change when weaning?

I always change to follow on milk at 6 months old as it has extra iron in it because babys iron stores from the mother starts running out at 6 months old. I just carry on feeding as normal along with solids.

It does say 6 months, BUT we've only started weaning about 2-3wks ago (very slowly) even though my HV said I should start around 4 months (Irish government says 4-6 months), but he was premature AND I have allergies so I am slowly introducing foods that I can tolerate (no kiwi, strawberries, melon or some dairy) , so started when he was a little over 5 months....we have one full container of aptimal 1 left, so guess will use up and start with the follow-on milk....

thanks!
