i had thought i would at least try BF to begin with and see how it went, but have been diagnosed with vit b12 deficiency. this is probably caused by pernicious anemia and if i exclusively breast feed the baby is at high risk of developing a vit 12 deficiency themselves, which can affect the development of the central nervous system. as this is not something i want to risk, i am looking at formulas but there are so many!!! i am really clueless so can anyone advise on which ones are for newborns?
thanks,

i used aptamil with my 2 and had no problems with it x x

im using aptamil too, its supposed to be the closest to breast milk

I don't know where you are located but here are some things I learned when I had my son....

Him and most babies I know had a hard time digesting anything enriched with iron. Similac was hard on my son, even the regular one...
I went through so many formulas before finding Isomil and Alsoy :) My son couldn't take anything but the Alsoy (cheaper than Isomil) and it took a few months to figure that out... It depends on the baby I guess but Goodstart and Enfamil get good reviews from the mommas I know who are using formula :) Good luck!!!

I used GoodStart Gentle Plus (it's what the hospital started Ava on) and because it agreed with her I have kept her on it. I have had no problems with the formula and it's pretty cheap - 12 bucks a can compared to 20 bucks.

I use Aptamil for Evie for a few reasons. I'd heard that it was the closest to breastmilk, it's less likely to cause wind and constipation. I can certainly vouch for the fact it doesnt give Evie constipation. She poos like she's breastfed  It is one of the more expensive formulas tho, nearly £8 a can.

We are on Aptamil too - recommended by midwife.

I bf for the first full week - then found Anna had lost 13 oz - so midwife told us to top her up with formula.

Now she is like a wee hungry monster for her bottle!

It is the most expensive one - £7.90 a tub- we put Anna on it at 7days old and the tub lasted 12 days. She is now consuming almost twice as much as she did when she started the formula so I think this 2nd tub we have just opened will not last much longer than a week!!
