Re the 70 degree rule for preparing formula, in their guidelines, it says where you do not have access to boiling water, it is safe to use "safe fresh water at room temp"

Isnt this against everything we are being told? To me that contradicts all other advice?

yip!

i make all bottles with kettle boiled, 30 mins old water, but i always make his bedtime ones by adding the formula to cooled boiled water so i contradict myself lol!
But i've been doing this for over 2 years now and had no ill effects :)

I always took that to mean cool pre boiled water. That said bearing in mind they are the world health guidelines then in third world countries clean tap water is preferable over dirty boiled water. Eurghhhhhh

Yeah this is what i have been doing, even tho hv told me not too!

yeah i dont get it at all...

mine says leave to cool freshly boiled water for 30 mins till it is 40-50c ---Where though? in the kettle? in the bottle? and how much water? just for 1 bottle? my kettle doesn't even register that small amount!

I cant believe there isnt a better way by now

i believe it has to be hot enough to sterilize the powder and to mix nutrients but not hot enough to scold the milk!

aghhhhhhh rubbish so wish my bobbies didnt let me down...

i also pre-make a load for the day and, shock horror, use a microwave!

Like someone else said, the WHO guidelines as i understand it, are for the whole world, so there is a big difference to tap water, cooled boiled water here and not very clean water in a developing country.

I'm naughty and use the microwave too, LOL.

that being said I'm confused over this because for my niece and my LO I have always made formula with nursery water (purified jug of water) at room temp, then put in fridge, then warm.

I'm in the US though so  ?
