Just a bit confused here. Firstly, had another blood test done and this time my FSH and LH were at a ratio very close to one (4.5 and 4). The test was done mid-cycle and it's the first cycle in years that I had which was under 30 days (29d!!!).

Is this a normal FSH level for mid-cycle? In the past I was only told that the ratio was off mid-cycle but then went back to normal by day three of af. At the time i had that blood test done, I had been diagnosed with PCO (about 3 years ago). The cysts showed up on every test I had (in both ovaries) but the last test (MRI) was a year ago now... My testosterone levels have always been normal, but I have had low progesterone before. Could my cysts be getting better?

Secondly-- is soy bad or good for PCOS? I increased my soy intake a lot the last three months and though my periods are still abnormally light, they seem to be coming normally. Everything I read about soy though says that it's bad for fertility. What's the deal with soy?

Please help!

Hiya,

I have heard that cysts can disappear all by themsleves so yes, they can be getting better for you. Can you ask for another scan to check?

With hormones - mid cycle is usually when you ovulate and LH should be peaking. I think 4 is still pretty low so I don't think you'll ovulate soon. But it's a good thing LH does not exceed FSH as that indicates PCOS.

Are you using OPKs?

Personally Im staying away from Soy. I know a lot of the ladies on here swear by it but Ive heard some nasty things about soy so won't be using it myself.

Thanks so much for the reply. I don't know anything about the normal levels for LH and FSH and couldn't find much on the internet. This time round, the blood test was done by my GP rather than the gyn. I am hoping to get a referral, but doesn't seem likely. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago, though my hormones never exactly fit the profile. I have been curious about the soy for awhile as it's one of my favorite foods. I lowered my intake for a considerable length of time, but nothing has worked yet, sigh. I think I was hoping that maybe more soy could help.

This is an interesting article about soy, maybe it will help!

(Folks who run the board: This article is selling nothing, just giving advice, but if we are not allowed to post links my apologies.:flower:)

The article is interesting. I fall into the category that was fed soy formula as a newborn as I couldn't digest any sort of milk. Sometimes I wonder if that has any correlation to my fertility issues. Will try lowering my soy intake again-- I've been having soy most days of the week!
