Confused

I've been having irregular contractions on and off for about a week now. I had a sweep done at 38+4 with no luck. At my last appt I was 2cm, soft and my cervix was anterior. Baby is also engaged. For the last 2 days I've been having period like cramps on and off, last night I had them but they were only mild. I woke up this morning and felt a little dizzy when I stood up, went into the toilet to find that I've lost my mucous plug! Hurray! Now I'm having cramps now too, trying to keep moving, hoping something comes of it!

I'm just confused, some people say that they go into labour that day or some do weeks later? Is this actually a sign that labour is imminent then? I wish pregnancy was just straight forward!! Lol

Do any of you ladies have any stories to share about losing your plug and labour?

I lost mine the day before. My contractions only ever felt like period cramps until after I was 4 cm dilated and in active labor though.
