Hello ladies x

Just wondered if you had any advice/opinions for a mummy to be....

Basically, i am really considering breast feeding my daughter when she is born in Jan. However, i am in two minds for a few reasons. Firstly, i chose not to BF my first child (9 yrs ago) not really sure why, it just wasn't for me - this time i think it may be though, but a family member has said that looks bad as i didn't bother with my first!!!!! Secondly, i am returning to work full time when my LO is around 7 - 8 mnths so would want to replace breast with bottle (formula) by 6 mnths...again, particular family member has said 6 mnths is not really worthwhile - and that i would possibly cause too much distress to my daughter at once....removing boobie , adapting to bottle AND going back to wotk. Obviously i do not want to distress my baby, but having the full year off is not really an option....:hissy:

Might add that this family member has one child who was bottle fed.

Not too sure what im asking really...just wondered what your thoughts are?

I think any breast feeding you are able to do is worthwhile. As long as you gradually move from breast to bottle I think your LO will be fine when you go back to work. Maybe start using bottles too, with expressed or formular, from early on so that she is happy feeding either way?

Good luck:hugs:

6 months of breastfeeding is excellent, any amount of breast milk is wonderful for the baby! Its very rude of this family member to say you didnt bother with your first. It was your decision then and I cant see why it makes any difference to your decision for this new baby. If you wanna try nursing this time, thats great! When you go back to work you'll make the transition to formula or you could just pump as by then your baby will be on solids and wont need as many bottles a day. Good luck hun!

Well I think it's totally up to you or you and your partner to decide, but it really amazed me how people have an opinion on breastfeeding. My MIL was always asking me "was I going to feed the baby?" I think it is very personal, maybe I am quite prudish but I just didn't like other people (as in not healthcare peeps) sticking their beaks in, so i know what it is like for you.

I don't know figures or anything but here I do see lots of young babies being breastfed and not so many older babies, so I'm thinking it is quite common to stop at around 6 months.......?

Anyway good luck deciding!

Thanks girls - i think i am going to go with breastfeeding! I do at least want to try this time xx
