spent all afternoon in halfords yesterday, they claim not one single baby car seat is going to fit in my 5 door peugeot 306!!
i walked out muttering something about having to buy a new car!!
the store manager who delt with me was useless, she gathered all her information on a computer, and didnt even try one car seat in my car, stating that if the computer says it wont fit then she cannot sell it to me??!!
anyone else had this problem?
do i just buy the car seat of my choice elsewhere and hope it fits?
i obviously want my child to be safe!!
anyone own a peugeot 306??
any help would be appreciated, many thanks, becky

I would go somewhere other than Halfords tbh. I had, on two separate occasions, staff there telling me that it was dangerous to have a child older than 9 months rear facing and I was going to break my child's legs or kill her :dohh:. This was when I went in to ask about a specific seat they sell that is suitable for rear facing up to 2 years old, so it's not even that they don't know about other seats, they don't even know about their own stock.

Mothercare aren't much better in general, although you do get the odd star there! If you can I would look for an independent store where staff are more likely to have been trained properly by manufacturers, not just shown how to wedge a seat in a car by a colleague.

If it's baby car seats, Mothercare should be fine as they have been good with those for us. Baby seats are all more or less the same size too. If it's next stage, I'd go to a specialist.

I had the exact same problem with mothercare and my 5 door fiesta... went to babies are us and oh look same base now fits (my car must have grown)

That's bollocks!.... We had a 13yr old 306 when lo was born, the maxi cosi cabrio (Group 0) and the Concorde Ultimax (group 0/1) fitted in it!

We had a 5 door fiesta which both fitted in to too!

You just have to be careful of the angle of the car seatbelt buckle. If it sticks out from the seat (of the car) then it can be forced at a funny angle and snap... called buckle crunch x

What crap customer service!!! We walked into Babies R Us and asked to take the floor models out to our car and test our the fit. They readily agreed (took DH's license just in case) and we were able to find the perfect fit for our car.

Don't buy a seat from anyone who won't let you fit it! Seriously, crap customer service.

I did a little research and found a review of the 5 best car seats for small cars. I haven't used any of these exact products myself, but we do have a Britax stroller that we love, so I know that brand. All of these are supposed to be good for small cars, though, so I would look into them further and see if any fit the dimensions of your vehicle. And stay away from that store with the terrible customer service! Like other have said, there are plenty of stores out there that will let you take the seat out to your car and test it. Good luck!

They should have tested them all in your car, A computer can't tell u as even the same make and model cars have varying seat belt lengths etc..

I work in mothercare and we get ALOT of stressy customers having a go at us for saying seats don't fit in their car but if they dont fit they dont fit  we arent allowed to fit carseats unless weve had the training by maxi-cosi or britax so I think it's the safest place to go!

Please don't just go and buy a seat without getting it fitted, so many are fitted wrong and a wrongly or unfitting carseat can be more dangerous than not having one :D
