Here's the story...

We were being brought in on Thurs for induction. On Wed night we went out for dinner to a really nice restaurant for our final final dinner as a couple ( I think that was our third one...) We came home and went to bed. At about 12.30 I woke up and realised my waters had broken. We rang the hospital and they said we should come up and get checked but it was likely we would be sent home if everything was ok, which it was.

I had a fairly sleepless night keeping an eye out for any little symptoms. There were some little tightenings but not much else. We took it easy all day Thurs, and went in to the hospital at 7 as planned.

I was checked over and eventually given a pessary at 12.30 as it was 24 hours after my waters had gone. I was 1cm dilated then. DH was sent home. Cue another sleepless night. I was getting more tightenings and they were becoming more difficult to deal with - I was using my yoga breathing to get myself through.

At 6.30am on Fri I was checked and was 2cm dilated  so they got me to call DH to come back and I would be brought up to delivery and put on a drip to get things moving. The drip was put up about 8 and contractions started properly. I had pain relief set up also and soon it was needed fairly quickly.

I was checked over at 12pm and I was 4cm. They said that was the hard part and things would move quicker now. FAMOUS LAST WORDS!! They upped the dosage on the drip and then checked me in 2 hours. Still 4 cm... Upped again and checked in 2 hours - 4 cm...

They did the same again said they would check at 6pm but if nothing had happened it would have to be a caesarian. They came back at 6 and nothing had moved. But they then said, well we do have the super duper dose - we could try that...

They did and this is when it all went to hell. They upped the dose and sent DH out for coffee. The new dose seemed to have the effect of just giving me one long contraction - I was getting no relief whatsoever. So when DH went out I was ok, when he came back I was screaming for an epidural. This went on for 2 hours and I was STILL 4 CENTIMETRES!!!!!

So at 8 they finally said I needed a caesarian :dohh: But my blood tests came back with an infection and my white blood cells were up, so they also couldn't do a spinal or anything and it would have to be a general anesthetic.

So eventually Conor David Rea was brought into the world at 9.37pm on 27 July weighing a massive 9lbs 6oz.

We had skin to skin and he breast fed straight away. Since then he hasn't really done so but otherwise he's fantastic!! And apparently if I do it again and there's a chance of the baby being even nearly the same size, it'll be another caesarian...

Here's a wee pic...
