Constipated baby :-(

Hey mommies....

so i've been trying everything to help my LO poo. I've given him cooled boiled water, sugar water, suppositories, lactulose, but nothing seems to work or if it does it takes about 4/5 days.

I have him on Aptamil milk at the moment and was wondering if i changed him to the comfort milk would that work?

Have any of you ladies had the same problem and if so what worked for you?.

When my LO had constipation I started out with cool boiled water - 1oz per day, every day. It took about 4-5 days to start working, but by continuing to give it it keeps on working.

However, it was a constant battle to get the water in him - he only wanted his formula! So, in the end we switched to comfort formula, and that did the trick. It's a thicker formula, so that can mean LO won't take the same quantity, therefore it might be an idea to chat to your HV about it (if she's any good!) before making the switch.

I must warn you though, that it might seem like it makes things worse at first. In the beginning you can expect putrid smelling, wet, green poos along with smelly wind. It does settle down after a couple of weeks though!

I wouldn't use Lactulose or anything sugary. Aptamil comfort helped Abi, even down to 1 comfort scoop to 3 normal Aptamil scoops. But she's on 4oz per feed.

My LO was on Similac Advanced...it made her horribly gassy, so we switched her to Similac Sensitive and that constipated her bc its lactose free...my pediatrician has us giving Haley 2 oz of baby juice a day (1 oz at the end of 2 separate feeds) and since then she's been amazing! But we have to give her only 1 flavor at a time for 5 days that way if she would have an allergy we know what juice its from

Freddie pooed 1x in 5 days on aptamil when he was a couple of weeks old. I swapped him to aptamil comfort and it got us a poo every other day BUT it makes them REALLY REALLY trumpy!!! they stink and the poos are green as can be!!!!.....both normal for comfort.

I am now on the swap back to aptamil, and he has an oz of boiled water a day and before each feed 1 teaspoon of baby juice mixed with 2 teaspoons of water. I didnt really like the comfort to be honest, I will swap back to it if the constipation returns but the gassiness was sooooooooooooo wrong!!!!!!!

You may find a change in formula will make it worse before it gets better. I have changed kacey over the last 24 weeks from stage one to comfort to stage 2 and each time it constipated her. What worked for us it a little bit of OJ. It works everytime. However not everyone recomends it

Aptamil comfort made things worse for us, George was on it for 4 weeks and still only going once a week whilst being so grumpy and trumpy in-between. I switched him back to aptamil 1 and he's been regular ever since, he has cool boiled water and we'd tried everything like yourself. Hated giving him lactolose.

My LO was constipated on SMA so she's now on Aptimal comfort and no longer constipated. She also has boiled cooled water about 2oz a day to help.
I would def. try a comfort milk hun.
If that doesnt help, see doctor.

If you don't mind me asking, how often does he go? My LO has always gone every 4th day - never more than twice a week on Aptamil but has never seemed distressed or upset by this. Is there any pattern to when he goes? I know mums at my baby group who would be taking their baby to the doctors if they went as long as my little man but for him it's always been normal!

There isn't really a pattern to him going. He last went on saturday so it's been 2 days so far. You could be right it just could be how he goes. xxx

im also having this problem and defo considering a comfort formula..i really shud make my decision as i need a knew tin of milk tomorrow..and really considering going for it

aptimal comfort made ollie really gassy (and it was stinking) we switched to cow and gate he does 1 poo a day and no long has offensive wind!

my HV told me i could put a little fresh orange in cooled boiled water for the wee man tho i didnt try this myself apparently its ok xx
