I have a consultant appointment at 4.10pm today. It is my first one. My midwife made the referral due to the severity of my SPD and for us to discuss early induction/c-section.

Any ideas what I can expect to happen?

I am in two minds as to what I want to do. On the one hand I know it is best for Baby H to come naturally when he is ready but on the other I am in so
much pain I sleep for 2 hours at a time, if that, and I am desperately uncomfortable.

Hey there,
I have had 2 consultant appointments so far but I think it is just standard procedure here. The first time he went over my medical history again and gave me a quick scan (on a rubbish machine!) and then last time I got bloods taken and he did another scan to measure the baby's head, that was about it. I am actually seeing him again tomorrow to discuss birth options. He had a MW there too who checked urine and fundal height. If you are so uncomfortable an induction may be the best thing, if you are not happy then baby will feel it too, also i'm sure they wouldn't even attempt to bring baby on until they are positive that it is good and ready! good luck hun xx

Hope they help you-they wont induce me and I am in wheelchair with the SPD now,I hate them........When you go into the hospital borrow a wheelchair from front and take that,I hobbled and wish now I took the chair as a girl who did (and sprinted to toilet I have to say) got a section as she was exagerating her SPD.....I know you ARE bad just saying this may help you,may make them more sympathetic.

Gosh! I can't believe they won't help you even though you are in a wheelchair! Can you not ask to be seen again?

Im under a consultant due to injecting blood thinners and induction was mentioned because of SPD and obviously the thinners, he offered it me would of been this week but i chickened out at the end and said no :haha:

Think it depends on the consultant really but really hope they help you sweetie you not having a good time of it :hugs:

Yay! He has agreed to an induction if I want! I have to go back in 3 weeks so he can assess how favourable my cervix is. If it is favourable then I can have an induction a few days later, if not then I can go back for another examination the week after.

He did explain that being my first pregnancy there is every chance I won't be favourable at 38 weeks and obviously they want to avoid a section if at all possible. If cervix isn't favourable, induction is more likely to fail.

On the downside I have put on 2.5 stone since my scan at 13+2 and I now weigh more than DH!

Well thats great news sweetie im made up so fingers crossed your body behaves itself when the time is right :haha: xxx

Thats brilliant hun-you have a better consultant than me but then I see the under-dog the registrar not my actual consultant.....I see them again at 36 weeks after growth scan so if babe is weighing up at 9lbs odd I am going to insist on it
xx
