So I had my midwife appointment today, I'm 17 weeks and she asked me if I had received my consultant appointment, she never told me I had to have one and had only mentioned when booking that she wasn't sure due to having 4 DD's already and that she would let me know on next appointment.
When I asked her if this is what it was for she said she didn't know if that was a problem or not? The reason she has referred me is due to having glucose in my urine on booking appointment (although I was clear today) and glucose during all previous pregnancies. I have always had the diabetes tests and they have always come back clear, never had any other problems during pregnancy.

Does anyone with any experience on consultant appointments/care no what the first appointment will entail.
Also in my notes it says high risk, when my tests come back negative, which I'm sure they will as this is the 5th time now, will they downgrade me to low risk?
I'm more worried about not being able to have LO in the midwifery led centre as midwife said she was unsure and all she could do was ask, I wouldn't mind if it was because of an actual problem but when I've delivered 4 times before with the same I'm not really seeing the issue?

Sorry for the long winded post am just a bit confused and midwife didn't seem to know to much either. :)

They start doing this as standard once youve had a few babies, I usually see the consultant once who then signs me off back to the midwife, just a bit of a pain in the ear extra appointment lol but pretty routine :)

Thanks, once they have signed you of have you been classed as low risk? I'm not to worried about the glucose as like I said it's always been there with no problems, just worried about where I'll be able to deliver.

With me my midwife wasn't sure what risk I was due to my family history (my mum had a stroke after having my brother) so she booked me in with the consultant just to be safe. I had 1 consultant appointment and the consultant classed me as low risk and that was that. Didn't see her again.

It sounds like yours will probably be similar if there's no actual issue and she's just being cautious.

Yeah I think they can just change you back to low risk if there aren't any problems. My midwife said I might have to see a consultant (though I think I'm still classed as low risk) because of my thyroid, so they can keep an eye on my medication, cause regular midwives aren't all clued up on that (neither are doctors btw, I had to tell my GP to check my levels and what the NICE guidelines were)
I just got a letter in the post a while ago informing me about an appointment in obstetrics at the hospital, so I'm assuming that's with a consultant, cause I already had my next midwife appointment booked and that isn't in the hospital.

I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to give birth in the midwife led centre.

Thank you, I'm hoping that's what they'll do. I was looking in my notes and she has wrote low risk at my booking in appointment yet has typed up the notes at the back to say high risk, I even have a consultant named on the notes
Hopefully the consultant will have more of an idea as to why I need to see her than the midwife does lol :)

I don't see why you'd need to be 'high risk' unless something is actually diagnosed as making you so...

The consultant/doctor will just look through your notes and ask you some questions, and assess your risk themselves based on all the history. If they don't think you're 'high risk', they'll sign you back to midwifery care ('low risk'). They may wish to base that on the results of the Glucose test, but if that's normal and there's nothing else making you high risk, then it shouldn't be a problem :)
