any tips on cooling pre made up bottles for the fridge? Im putting them in cold water and then adding fresh cold water to that when it warms up a bit from the hot bottles.

looking to speed up the process as it seems to take ages?

does anyone put their bottles in the fridge warm?

I stick some ice in the basin too, speeds it up a good bit, don't ever have to top up the water. Definitely wait til they're cold tho, else you'll raise the temp of the fridge inside, which isn't good for everything else in there x

Ive got some plastic ice cubes with the liquid in that I stick in the sink with the water then I bung them back in the freezer ready for the next time I think ice packs would probably work well too.

I hadn't thought about ice cubes... I just have them in the sink of cold water. We have one of those sinks that have two bits - the normal sink and then a smaller bit. We use the smaller bit, place the bottles in and then run cold water until just before the bottles start to float. Takes about 10 minutes to cool them down until they are just warm, then I just stick them in the fridge, top shelf at the back.

On a totally different point - beatnick, now old was your lo when you used a bumbo for the first time. I can't wait to get one for my lo as he LOVES sitting up watching what's going on, but wasn't sure when they could be used? He has good head control virtually all of the time now, it only gets droopy if he is tired.
Your lo looks so cute in it!!

oooops:dohh: ive been just sticking them in the fridge ,silly question y do we have to cool them :dohh: x

I just sit them in cool water in the sink for 10 mins then pop in the fridge. I was putting them in still warm and hadn't thought about cooling, but I found they smelt a bit 'off' when I got them out later if I did this?

xx

i only just got the bumbo- we only put him in it for a couple of minutes a day as he can only just keep his head up!

he looks so cute in it- me and my husband always look at eachother and say "shall we put him in the bumbo!"

i think its for 3 months+ though!

on the bottle front ive been tempted to put them in warm. i worry that leaving them cooling on the side is sort of not the right thing to do... i leave them in cold water for 15 minutes and always ponder if this is too long!

what happens if you put them in warm?

 nothing i dont think Eoghan takes them fine, maybe i shoul start cooling them , hope there not off :dohh: x

I use and ice pack in the sink of cold water and then put them in the fridge when they cold!
You have to cool them down as it stops bacteria or something like that, and its not good to raise the temp in the fridge!!

your ment to rapid cool them because they then arnt in the 'danger temperature' where bacteria grows, for long. X

Honestly, putting them in the fridge from hot won't alter the temp of the fridge enough to cause a problem. I come from a culinary background where we studied bacteria growth and whatnot exactly like this for this exact reason! Yes, they should be cooled as quickly as possible as to stop bacteria growth and putting them in a basin of ice water will do the trick. But if it's a few bottles a day and they go in your fridge, it isn't enough heat to make a difference to encourage any bacteria growth. I understand being safer than sorry and all that, but just wanted to let you know it's ok to skip this step!

what i do is put them in cold water then after 2 mins empty the water out and put fresh cold water in and leave it for 5 then empty it out again and put fresh cold in again for a couple of minuets and the bottles are cold by then so i pop them in the fridge x
