Asking for a friend as she's been told that cot bumpers are dangerous as they can cause a baby to suffocate.shes thinking of getting the mesh ones think their called air wraps they are meant to allow if the child does go up against them they are able to breath.she wondering if it's worth getting as she keep been told not to bother with a cot bumper she is worried her child will roll and get her arm stuck in the cot bars

I have the mesh bumpers and I think that they are great.

We've had breathable ones for both babies. The regular padded ones are definitely a suffocation hazard.

I've never used bumpers and never had a problem. I would tell her to try without and then buy them if she needs them.

I don't use any. We are foster parents and the agency we work with has told us that we can not use any of them. They said that kids are not strong enough to injury themselves when they get stuck in the bars.

They also raise the temperature in the cot and can increase SIDS risk, there's no need for them, Just don't bother.

I agree with one of the previous posters, try with nothing and buy later if she needs them. My DS is almost six months and now he's rolling around he gets into a position with his legs quite far through the bars by rolling to his side then rolls to his stomach and ends up with his face down on edge of mattress squashed too close to the bar to get his hands down properly to roll back. He can lift his face to breathe and cry to alert us but can't move. We are buying some. If he didn't do this I wouldn't bother but hopefully they will stop him getting his legs through.

I have the mesh ones, worked great! I'm re using them for new little one too.

It's reccomend not to use any. They can also be an asphyxiation risk, and after reading first hand stories from parent who have lost their babies because the bumpers became loose and ended up wrapped around their necks I've been put off any bumpers.

Ive been told even the breathable mesh ones pose a risk.

Id never touch them. :)

I also heard the breathable ones pose a risk so I just didn't bother. I did buy cot bumpers as a set with the bedding when preparing for dd but never used them. and never used for ds either. :flower:
