https://www.babyworld.co.uk/faq/images/a2.gif Lemsip products tend to contain paracetamol, phenylephrine, and sometimes caffeine (there are quite a few different types of this product). Phenylephrine is a similar drug to noradrenaline and these drugs are contra-indicated in pregnancy. They tend to affect the blood pressure (causing it to rise) and this might be harmful in pregnancy. In fact, the doses in a product such as Lemsip are very small and thus it's unlikely that any harm would result. All the same, it is not possible to say that taking such a product would be entirely risk-free, and for this reason I would advise that it would be best avoided. Paracetamol has been used for many years in pregnancy and it is known to be safe. Paracetamol alone is effective in relieving aches and pains and lowering fever, and this would be the thing to take if you feel you need to take something for relief of cold symptoms. Colds tend to be short-lived and apart from paracetamol, drinking plenty of fluids (preferably water), and taking something to soothe your throat if it is sore (like honey and lemon), no other treatment is usually necessary.
