cough in pregnancy

Hi there,

i am a 4th month pregnant now.i am getting severe cough from five days.i have cold also.but cough is giving more trouble to me.i have sore throat and very bad irritative cough.i dont have sleep from two nights.i am trying hot water,lemon.and honey.but they ae not giving much relief.would you please suggest some medicine or your advice about this.thank you.

Have you seen your doctor yet? Your doc would give you the best advice as they can assess your symptoms better.

Sucking on hard candies helps me with my coughs. Hope you feel better soon

To be honest there is absolutely no evidence to suggest cough medicine helps,my GP told me this and this was in the news just recently. I would stick with the honey and lemon and if your throat gets sore, just add more honey to coat your throat!

Yeah, getting sick with a cold while you're pregnant is THE PITS!!! I'm getting through my second one right now, and it's been a rough week. As for the coughing, Ricola lozenges have been about the only kind that have helped me control the cough. I've also resorted to doing lots of home-remedy types of treatments: boiling water and holding my head over a steaming bowl with a towel draped over my head; gargling with warm salt water; a neti pot; drinking a hot mixture of water, lemon juice, fresh grated ginger and honey.
Try to get as much rest as you can, and drink as many fluids as you can muster--water and herbal teas are probably the best.

ive got a cough and this is my second cold i have had since being pregnant.
last night i ended up sleeping on the sofa as i was coughing so much (i didnt want to keep hubby awake as he had work in the morning)
i have had this cold for a week now.
mine started off with a sore throat then a tickly cough and now a crocky*spelling* my nose is blocked too.
i cant wait for it to go.

I'm not sure what medications you can take but my doc prescribed benzonatate for my cough. It works pretty well for me. I'm not pg but it doesn't say anything on the bottle about not taking during pregnancy.

They are aweful mine are dried and bleeding and just clogged, I have had this a few weeks now i finally called the Dr and he said to get some Claritin, its helping a bit im taking it before bed, so they sinus's open more for me to sleep.
its like a never ending cold.
