Hey

I've recently become a single mother.

I notified the council and from paying £97 per month in regards to my council tax...I got a letter saying I am now to pay £107?

This apparently includes the 25% discount.

I've sent an email asking for advice/information...but can anyone shed any light on why its gone UP because we've split up rather than going down?

Thanks

Hi, I've no idea why it has gone up, you need to call and confirm the information they have as it may be that they've mixed it up a bit. As the only adult in my house I get a 25% discount, it's not a benefit it's based on the fact that you will use less water and produce less sewage, rubbish and recycling.

I thought it was strange. I emailed them and asked them to ring me?

So.....hopefully I'll find out what's happened!

Did you pay over 12 months before the change? They automatically do it over 10 months when you notify them of a change which would make it more if that makes sense.

I wouldn't wait for a call, they won't make the effort. Call them or if you can, go into the council office and ask why its costing you more.
