First, I am a bigger girl and had a c-section close to 12 years ago. That was by far the worst pain EVER. They used staples. I am going to have another c-section. I was wondering if the pain depends on whether they use staples, dissolvable stitches etc. I was told that staples cause more pain but I don't know if that is true. Is that true? Do plus sized mommas have to have staples? I plan on asking one of my doctors but haven't seen them since this popped into my mind. I am so nervous to go through that pain again. If it weren't to have a baby I would not do it again even to save my life. It hurt so bad and I normally have a high tolerance for pain. I've a few surgeries, broken bones, had stitches, even fallen off a 20 foot cliff head first and none of that even compared to my c-section pain.

I had a c_section 3 years ago. At the time I weighed nearly 16stone(225lbs) and they used dissolvable stiches. I do remember being in pain when going from a sitting position to a lie down position and vice versa but it wasnt unbearble and only lasted for about a week post op.

Im a real weakling and have a low pain threshold so i imagine that the dissolvable sticthes are less painful

I'm not plus size, but I did have a c section just under 2 weeks ago and I had dissolvable stitches and was only in pain when walking for the first day, been fine ever since. I have got a small infection in my wound now and it was very sore yesterday but antibiotics have really helped already.

Thank you for your replies. I excited to have a baby but terrified of the c-section. When I woke up with my son, I was in ICU and they were turning me a bit to change the pad underneath me and the searing pain that went through my belly was what woke me up from the anesthesia. I have better doctors so I hope that things go better this time around.

I had an unplanned c section three months again and I had staples, im not plus size so i dont think that's why they use staples for you (but cant say that for sure), i think it depends on the doctor. But my experience with having staples wasnt that bad. Of course getting up for the first couple time hurt but the pain was bearable and they removed the staples right before i was discharged fom th hospital, and i was able to manage my pain with just advil once i got home. Talk to your doc about what they plan of using as a closure method and voice your concerns. Hope things go better for you this time

I have had 2 sections, with the first I had disposable stitches the second staples. Both times I was in severe pain on the second day and night and was taking oramorph every 2 hours as well as anything else they would give me but 3rd day onwards felt loads better. I didn't like staples tbh as I could feel them pulling and they were generally more uncomfortable but I don't think they caused more overall pain if that makes sense...
