firstly....is it ok to give a new born cooled boiled water between feed's?

secondly....my mum bought me the ready made bottles of cow and gate, and when I was in hospital, H had these, but he had the orthopaedic(SP?) teet's for them, and wont use the normal one's, would I be ok splitting one ready made bottle into 2 of our bottle's and putting one in the fridge for a later feed?

thirdly....do you make up bottle's as and when you need them? or make so many at a time and store other's...if so how do you store them?

why does he need cooled boiled water? hes only young are you not feeding him on demand?
i was told water was onk if consitapted and not to use it till he was older but check with your midwife

i never used ready made bottles so cant help

as for making bottles my midwofe told me to measure the water in to the bottles and add the powder when baby wanted a feed

we fed on demand and he made his own routine of every three hours during the day x

Hi Danielle! Congrats on Henry's birth!

OK, re water in between feeds: you really shouldn't give anything other than milk to your baby (especially a newborn) - can I ask why you want to do this? They get all the fluid they need from their milk feeds.

Re bottles: I'm not sure if you mean that you always use ready prepared milk or if it's just that your mum has bought you a couple? We used ready-made in the early days and I would switch to powder as it will prove to be so costly, but obviously it's fine to give them the ready-made version. I'd say that it would be fine to split the bottles you have as long as you're using them within 24 hours (others will probably say not to do it or use it within a shorter time).

Ok, making up bottles: again, if you're using ready-made, then pour as you go. If you're using powder, this is what I do. At about 6pm, I boil the kettle for the water that I will need for the next day. I sterilise all the bottles I have before I go to bed (I was sterilising 6 at a time in the early days) and then fill them with the cooled boiled water from the kettle. Pop the lids on them all and put them into the main part of your fridge (not in the door of the fridge as it is slightly warmer there). Add the powder to your bottles as and when you need them. You shouldn't store made-up formula for more than about 2 hours. Obviously, if you're doing more than 6 feeds, then you'll have to do the whole process again at some point during the day. Also, don't ever re-boil the water in the kettle - this increases the mineral content if you do. Only boil fresh cold water once.

Sorry if I've stated the obvious in some places, but thought I'd get it all down in one go just in case! Hope this helps you though! xxx

mw said about the boiled water, but i knew others said not 2.
did't like some of the mw's ways with a fewthings..

mum bought us a pack of ready made bottles 2get me through first few day's, been using powder tho as H wont take to teats with them bottles (he'd only have the orthapedic one's that hospital gave us.

you only would offer water if constipated when the babys older id stick with milk if the babys is hubgry feed them x

no need for water at that age, unless constipated and only 1oz per day!!

re making bottles....I fill a flask of cooled boiled water in the morning, and fridge it. then at each feed if for eg he is having 6oz i fill to 3 oz with BOILING water, dissolve the powder (meant to make bottles at 70degrees) then add the cooled water up to the 6oz mark....that way its cold instantly and we have no screaming

Nuk teats are very good as are the tommee tippee closer to nature
