My DD is 12 weeks old today and for the past week we've been cutting right down on mixed feeding in the hope to exclusively breastfeed as soon as possible. Things were going great but then I went to my mums over the weekend and she seemed unsettled and ended up been mixed fed again properly if that makes sense. Today she has been a little nightmare bless her - all she has done is scream, cry, whinge, nap and feed. We fed from 4pm until 8.30pm and she still wasn't full, I gave her a bath where she was ok for around 5 minutes and then started crying again so I fed her again for 30 minutes when she then completely refused the breast, I squeezed the breast and milk still came out so that isn't the issue. I then gave her 4oz of formula and she's settled now.

Question is - is she actually getting any milk from me do you think? Also is long feeds normal?

Thanks in advance.

so long as she's getting plenty of wet nappies and pooing fairly regular, she's getting enough. As I said in the other thread, every ounce you give her tells your boobs they have produced enough and they wont up the supply. :)

Thanks Mervs Mum, I'm such a worry wart and took the easy option because I'm paranoid I am starving her to death lol! I've just read about 12 week growth spurt which would explain the need to feed often, she's also become really clingy with me and gets herself into such a state when I leave her for even 10 minutes, she cries that much she makes herself tired so she feeds herself to sleep. Vicious circle but I'm sure we're doing fine I just need more confidence, going to get her weighed tomorrow (and hopefully just do breastfeeding from tomorrow) and then again next Wednesday just to check she's either staying the same, gaining or loosing a very small amount whilst we get used to it.

I'm sure you're doing a wonderful job hun. When I was in your situation I went to see a LC and she checked everything I was doing. She said I was doing everything right I just needed to believe in myself.....YOU CAN DO IT....your body fed and looked after your baby from a speck of nothing to a perfect baby for 9 whole months....why would it let you down now???

:hugs:

Thats very true, I also keep thinking if she was starving she would scream and scream non-stop so she must be getting some milk, I just wish I could hear the magical sucking noise lol!
