Me and my partner are considering moving in together. moneys abit of a problem fot me. i cud do it but things would be tight. im curently getting child benifit and child tax credit. if i move in with my partner who works full time. would i still get child tax credits? Or wud this change to working tax credits? Im not currently working myself as i said wud go back towork once my daughter is 6 months. rent will be at least £500 per month too. Just wondering if anyone has any advice about money and things that may change if we do get a place and how it works for other couples. Do u split rent. bills etc.. hes not my daughters father her dad has no involvement and no finacial help from him what so ever.

This would be better in general hun. More people could help you out, this is single parents, the majority of us live alone.

Anyway, yes your child tax credits would be reduced and you would get some working tax, you might get some help with rent by apply for council tax and housing benefit.

Normally when you move in with someone you have a joint income so the both of yours together and all the bills are paid out of it but it depends it is really what your comfortable with.

you should sit down and work it all out. www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk has a tax credit calculator that you can put your details in along with ur man and it will tell you what you would get. Also if you go onto your local council website they usually have a calculator to work out if you would get any housing benefit etc. If your not sure what ur doing go along to your local citizens advice bureau and they can do all the calculations for you then you can work out whats best for you.

Just realised i posted in wrong section. not sure if i would feel comfatable having to live off my partner

in canada once you live together for 6 months your considered common law which is tha same as being married and his income will count as yours, here you usually dont qualify for child tax benifits anymore unless he on his own is already considered low income on his own,
